Job Summary:
The Senior Resident in Physiology is responsible for assisting in the teaching of physiology to medical students, conducting research, and providing academic and clinical support within the physiology department. The role also involves supervising and mentoring junior residents, students, and interns while contributing to the department’s research and educational development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching & Education:
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions in physiology to undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
- Supervise practical physiology sessions, laboratory work, and demonstrations, ensuring that students understand key physiological concepts.
- Assist in the preparation and design of teaching materials, presentations, and course content.
- Participate in conducting assessments, quizzes, and exams for students.
- Mentor and guide students in understanding physiological concepts and their clinical applications.
- Research:
- Participate in research projects related to human physiology and contribute to ongoing academic studies.
- Contribute to publishing research findings in scientific journals and present research at academic conferences.
- Assist faculty members with data collection, analysis, and interpretation of research results.
- Clinical Support:
- Provide support to clinical departments, integrating physiological principles into clinical practice.
- Assist in clinical teaching sessions, relating physiological knowledge to patient care and medical procedures.
- Conduct laboratory investigations, including blood tests, ECGs, and other clinical physiology assessments.
- Provide guidance to students during clinical rotations and practical assessments.
- Supervision & Mentorship:
- Supervise and provide guidance to junior residents, interns, and medical students during their clinical rotations and laboratory sessions.
- Offer academic support and mentorship to students, helping them develop their understanding of physiology and medical sciences.
- Provide feedback to students and faculty on academic progress, performance, and areas for improvement.
- Administrative Duties:
- Assist in the maintenance and organization of laboratory equipment, ensuring the safe and efficient use of resources.
- Help manage student records, including attendance, grades, and assessments.
- Participate in department meetings, planning, and decision-making processes related to curriculum development and departmental improvements.
- Assist in the preparation of reports, grant applications, and administrative paperwork.
- Professional Development:
- Engage in continuous professional development by attending conferences, workshops, and seminars.
- Stay updated on recent developments in physiology, medical education, and clinical practice.
- Contribute to advancing the curriculum and teaching methodologies within the physiology department.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- MBBS + MS/MD in Physiology or equivalent degree from a recognized medical school.
- A postgraduate degree or enrollment in a postgraduate program in Physiology is preferred.
