Job Summary:
The Assistant Professor in Pharmacology is responsible for teaching pharmacology to medical, pharmacy, and allied health students, conducting research in pharmacology, and contributing to the development and enhancement of the pharmacology curriculum. This role requires a strong foundation in pharmacology, the ability to integrate clinical applications of pharmacology into teaching, and a passion for advancing the discipline through research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching & Education:
- Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials in pharmacology, covering topics such as pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, clinical pharmacology, toxicology, and pharmacotherapeutics.
- Supervise laboratory and practical sessions where students can gain hands-on experience in drug research, testing, and analysis.
- Develop and update course syllabi, teaching materials, and assessments to align with current trends in pharmacology.
- Conduct examinations, quizzes, and practical assessments, and provide timely feedback to students.
- Mentor and guide students in their academic journey, helping them understand pharmacological concepts and their clinical relevance.
- Integrate modern pharmacological research and drug development into teaching.
- Research:
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in pharmacology, with a focus on drug discovery, pharmacogenomics, pharmacotherapeutics, or toxicology.
- Publish research findings in reputable, peer-reviewed pharmacology or medical journals.
- Present research at academic conferences and engage in national and international research collaborations.
- Apply for and manage research grants, ensuring proper administration of research funds.
- Supervise graduate students, research fellows, and interns in pharmacology-related research projects.
- Curriculum Development:
- Contribute to the development, review, and continuous improvement of the pharmacology curriculum to ensure it is up-to-date and meets educational standards.
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate pharmacology concepts into clinical education and other related disciplines.
- Use innovative teaching methods such as case-based learning, digital resources, and simulation-based teaching to enhance student learning.
- Clinical Integration & Applications:
- Provide clinical pharmacology expertise to medical and pharmacy students, ensuring they understand how pharmacological principles are applied in real-world medical settings.
- Integrate drug therapy management, patient safety, and therapeutic drug monitoring into teaching.
- Collaborate with clinicians to provide practical insights into the clinical use of pharmacological agents and their effects on patient outcomes.
- Administrative Duties:
- Participate in departmental and institutional committees, contributing to the planning and decision-making processes.
- Maintain accurate records of student assessments, grades, and attendance.
- Manage and maintain pharmacology laboratory resources, ensuring the proper upkeep of equipment and materials.
- Organize and contribute to departmental seminars, workshops, and conferences.
- Professional Development:
- Engage in continuous professional development through attending workshops, conferences, and academic courses.
- Stay updated on emerging trends in pharmacology, new drug developments, and advancements in medical education.
- Contribute to the academic community by collaborating on interdisciplinary projects and research.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- MBBS + MS/MD in Pharmacology or a related field, or an MD with a focus in pharmacology.
- Postdoctoral research experience or a demonstrated track record in pharmacology research is preferred.
