Associate Professor General Medicine

Job Summary:

The Associate Professor in General Medicine is responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, conducting clinical practice, supervising research, and contributing to the development of the General Medicine curriculum. This position also includes involvement in patient care, clinical teaching, and advancing knowledge in general medicine through research and academic activities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching & Education:
    • Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials in general medicine, covering topics such as internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, endocrinology, infectious diseases, and gastrointestinal disorders.
    • Supervise students in clinical settings, providing hands-on learning experiences related to patient examination, diagnosis, treatment, and management.
    • Develop and update teaching materials, including lecture notes, presentations, and case studies.
    • Assess student progress through examinations, assignments, and clinical evaluations, providing feedback to enhance their learning experience.
    • Mentor and guide postgraduate students, fellows, and residents in their clinical rotations and research projects.
  • Clinical Practice:
    • Provide patient care as part of the general medicine department, diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with a wide range of medical conditions.
    • Lead and participate in inpatient and outpatient clinical services, including daily rounds, patient care planning, and case discussions.
    • Collaborate with other specialists to manage complex, multi-disciplinary cases, ensuring comprehensive patient care.
    • Stay updated on the latest medical practices, therapies, and technologies to ensure high standards of care.
  • Research:
    • Conduct and supervise clinical or laboratory-based research in general medicine, with a focus on topics like chronic diseases, emerging infections, preventive medicine, or therapeutic advancements.
    • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed medical journals and present research at national and international conferences.
    • Seek and manage research funding and grants, ensuring effective use of resources and adherence to ethical standards.
    • Mentor and guide research students, fellows, and residents in conducting and publishing clinical research.
  • Curriculum Development:
    • Contribute to the design, review, and continuous improvement of the general medicine curriculum to ensure it is up-to-date with current medical advancements and educational standards.
    • Work with interdisciplinary teams to integrate general medicine with other departments, ensuring a holistic approach to medical education.
    • Innovate teaching methods, such as case-based learning, digital resources, and simulation, to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Administrative & Departmental Duties:
    • Participate in departmental and institutional committees and contribute to the planning and development of academic and clinical programs.
    • Assist in managing department operations, including patient care services, student rotations, and staff development.
    • Maintain accurate records of students’ progress, patient care outcomes, and departmental activities.
    • Organize and participate in departmental seminars, conferences, and continuing medical education (CME) programs.
  • Professional Development:
    • Stay current with advancements in general medicine through continuous education, workshops, conferences, and peer-reviewed publications.
    • Engage in collaborative research projects and interdisciplinary initiatives to broaden the scope of general medicine knowledge and practice.
    • Participate in national and international forums and collaborations to enhance professional growth.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • MBBS + MS/MD in General Medicine.
