Associate Professor Respiratory Medicine

Job Summary:

The Associate Professor in Respiratory Medicine is responsible for providing high-quality teaching in respiratory medicine, delivering clinical care to patients, conducting research, and contributing to the academic development of the respiratory medicine department. This role involves supervising postgraduate students, conducting research in pulmonary diseases, and staying at the forefront of medical advancements in respiratory care.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching & Education:
    • Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials on respiratory medicine, focusing on topics such as pulmonary diseases, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), tuberculosis, pulmonary infections, and sleep disorders.
    • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate medical students during clinical rotations, providing hands-on training in diagnosis, management, and treatment of respiratory diseases.
    • Develop and update educational materials for teaching, including case studies, practical exercises, and digital learning resources.
    • Assess student performance through examinations, clinical evaluations, and assignments, offering constructive feedback to support their learning.
    • Mentor postgraduate students, residents, and fellows in clinical rotations, research projects, and career development.
  • Clinical Practice:
    • Provide high-quality patient care in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of respiratory disorders, including COPD, asthma, pneumonia, tuberculosis, interstitial lung diseases, and pulmonary malignancies.
    • Lead and participate in clinical rounds, outpatient clinics, and inpatient services, offering expert clinical judgment and treatment strategies.
    • Conduct advanced diagnostic procedures such as bronchoscopy, pulmonary function testing, sleep studies, and lung biopsies.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including cardiologists, pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, and infectious disease specialists, to provide comprehensive care for respiratory patients.
    • Stay updated with the latest advances in respiratory medicine and incorporate innovative approaches and treatments into clinical practice.
  • Research:
    • Conduct independent and collaborative research in the field of respiratory medicine, focusing on areas such as pulmonary diseases, respiratory physiology, interventional pulmonology, and respiratory pharmacology.
    • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
    • Seek research funding and grants, ensuring effective management of research projects and adherence to ethical standards.
    • Supervise and mentor research students, residents, and fellows in their research activities, guiding them through study design, data collection, and manuscript preparation.
  • Curriculum Development:
    • Contribute to the development, review, and continuous improvement of the respiratory medicine curriculum for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
    • Work with other departments to integrate respiratory medicine with other specialties and enhance the overall medical education program.
    • Explore and implement innovative teaching methods, including simulation-based learning, problem-based learning (PBL), and virtual patient platforms to engage students.
  • Professional Development:
    • Participate in continuous medical education (CME) and training programs to stay current with advances in respiratory medicine and related fields.
    • Attend national and international conferences, workshops, and seminars to enhance knowledge and share expertise with colleagues in the field.
    • Contribute to the professional development of junior faculty members, residents, and medical students.
  • Administrative & Departmental Duties:
    • Participate in departmental meetings, clinical governance activities, and strategic planning within the department of respiratory medicine.
    • Help manage departmental resources, research initiatives, and student rotations.
    • Assist in the preparation of reports for institutional and accrediting bodies, ensuring that department activities align with academic and clinical standards.
    • Participate in the development of policies and procedures for respiratory care, ensuring high standards of clinical practice and patient safety.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • MBBS + MS/MD in Respiratory Medicine or Pulmonary Medicine.
