Senior Resident Urology

Job Summary:

The Senior Resident in Urology is responsible for managing patients with urological conditions, assisting in surgical procedures, and contributing to both the clinical and academic functions of the department. The Senior Resident will also mentor junior residents and students, participate in research, and provide high-quality care under the supervision of attending urologists.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Responsibilities:
    • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including taking detailed medical histories and conducting physical examinations.
    • Assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of urological disorders such as renal, bladder, prostate, and male reproductive system diseases.
    • Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care to patients undergoing urological surgeries.
    • Assist in urological surgeries including endourology, laparoscopy, and open surgeries under supervision, with opportunities for independent practice as competence develops.
    • Manage emergency urological conditions such as renal colic, urological trauma, and urological infections.
    • Monitor patient progress, interpret diagnostic imaging (e.g., CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds), and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  2. Surgical Responsibilities:
    • Assist in or independently perform common urological procedures (e.g., cystoscopy, TURP, nephrectomy, prostatectomy, lithotripsy, etc.).
    • Participate in both inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures in a variety of urological subspecialties.
    • Provide expert care during urological emergencies and coordinate with other specialties when needed.
  3. Patient Management:
    • Develop individualized treatment plans for patients, in collaboration with attending urologists and the healthcare team.
    • Provide counseling to patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and post-operative care.
    • Follow up with patients post-surgery to monitor progress and manage any complications.
  4. Teaching and Mentorship:
    • Mentor and supervise junior residents, medical students, and interns in clinical and procedural skills.
    • Participate in daily teaching rounds, case discussions, and formal educational sessions.
    • Develop educational resources and contribute to departmental teaching activities.
  5. Research and Academic Contribution:
    • Participate in research activities, including clinical trials, audits, and academic studies related to urology.
    • Contribute to presentations at academic meetings and publish research findings in reputable medical journals.
    • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in urology and incorporate new knowledge into clinical practice.
  6. Administrative and Miscellaneous Duties:
    • Document patient care in medical records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in accordance with hospital policies.
    • Assist in the management of department schedules, including coordination of surgeries and outpatient clinics.
    • Engage in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and hospital committees as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
  • Completion of internship or equivalent clinical training.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a postgraduate residency program in Urology.
  • Strong understanding of urological diseases and surgical techniques.
  • Excellent clinical judgment and hands-on surgical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced training or experience in specific urological sub-specialties such as uro-oncology, pediatric urology, or reconstructive urology.
  • Research background in urology or related areas.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or teaching role within a medical setting.
