Position Overview:
The Senior Resident in Radiation Oncology plays a critical role in delivering high-quality cancer care through the application of radiation therapy. This position involves direct patient management under the supervision of faculty, participation in treatment planning, multidisciplinary coordination, academic research, and teaching activities. As a senior resident, leadership in clinical responsibilities and mentoring junior residents is expected.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Perform comprehensive evaluation and management of oncology patients referred for radiation therapy.
- Assist in simulation, contouring, treatment planning, and treatment delivery.
- Monitor and manage acute and late radiation toxicities during and after treatment.
- Supervise and support the clinical work of junior residents and interns.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in accordance with institutional protocols.
Academic and Teaching:
- Actively participate in academic programs including tumor boards, journal clubs, case discussions, seminars, and grand rounds.
- Prepare and deliver presentations on current topics in oncology.
- Guide junior residents and medical students during clinical postings.
- Contribute to institutional teaching programs and CME activities.
Research and Development:
- Participate in clinical or translational oncology research.
- Assist in protocol development and data collection for departmental studies.
- Present findings at conferences and contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Participate in quality improvement and audit activities within the department.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory guidelines related to radiation therapy.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Radiology, Pathology, etc.).
Qualifications:
- Educational: MBBS + MD/DNB in Radiation Oncology from a recognized institution.
- Experience: Completion of junior residency in Radiation Oncology (2–3 years); prior exposure to advanced radiotherapy techniques preferred (e.g., IMRT, IGRT, SBRT, SRS).
- Skills:
- Strong clinical acumen and interest in oncology
- Familiarity with treatment planning systems (Eclipse, Monaco, etc.)
- Good communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities
- Aptitude for teaching and academic work
Desirable Attributes:
- Involvement in peer-reviewed research
- Knowledge of radiobiology and medical physics principles
- Participation in national/international oncology conferences
- Willingness to take on-call duties as per rotation
