Senior Resident Physiology

Job Summary: The Senior Resident in Physiology is responsible for providing advanced clinical and academic support in the Department of Physiology. This role involves assisting in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting research, providing clinical services, and contributing to the overall academic and administrative functioning of the department. The Senior Resident will be expected to develop a deep understanding of human physiology and apply it in teaching, research, and patient care settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching & Instruction:
    • Deliver lectures, practical sessions, and tutorials in basic and advanced physiology to undergraduate medical, dental, and allied health students.
    • Supervise practical laboratory sessions, ensuring students gain hands-on experience in physiology techniques and experiments.
    • Provide individual academic support and mentorship to students, helping them understand complex physiological concepts and prepare for exams.
    • Assist in the preparation of study materials, quizzes, and examinations for various physiology courses.
    • Participate in interdisciplinary teaching activities, collaborating with other medical and health-related departments for integrated learning.
  2. Clinical & Practical Training:
    • Assist in clinical training by integrating physiology with clinical medicine, particularly in patient care settings.
    • Collaborate with clinical departments in the interpretation of diagnostic tests and understanding physiological principles underlying clinical conditions.
    • Conduct bedside teaching and participate in case discussions related to physiological aspects of diseases and disorders.
    • Contribute to the development of clinical skills, emphasizing the importance of physiological knowledge in patient diagnosis and management.
  3. Research & Scholarly Activities:
    • Engage in clinical and basic physiology research, with a focus on understanding human body functions and their role in health and disease.
    • Participate in the design and execution of research projects and experiments, and contribute to writing research papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
    • Present research findings at conferences, workshops, and seminars, and contribute to advancing the academic reputation of the department.
    • Collaborate with faculty and other departments in research and teaching initiatives.
  4. Academic & Administrative Duties:
    • Assist in the development and improvement of the physiology curriculum, ensuring it reflects current trends in medical education and research.
    • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the academic planning and growth of the department.
    • Help in the preparation and evaluation of student assessments, including written exams, practical exams, and viva voce.
    • Manage and maintain physiology laboratories, ensuring proper use of equipment and supplies.
    • Assist with administrative tasks, such as preparing teaching materials, reports, and course evaluations.
  5. Professional Development & Continuous Learning:
    • Stay updated with the latest developments in the field of physiology, including advancements in medical research, teaching techniques, and healthcare practices.
    • Attend academic conferences, workshops, and seminars to enhance knowledge and skills.
    • Pursue opportunities for further education, certifications, and research collaborations.
  6. Supervision & Mentorship:
    • Supervise junior residents, medical students, and other trainees, providing guidance on clinical and laboratory work.
    • Offer mentorship and support to new residents in the department, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education:
    • M.B.B.S. or equivalent medical degree.
    • Postgraduate qualification (M.D., M.S.) in Physiology or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Resident or Junior Resident in Physiology or related field.
