Senior Resident Pharmacology

Job Summary: The Senior Resident in Pharmacology is an advanced training position designed for medical professionals who wish to enhance their expertise in pharmacology. The role includes responsibilities for clinical pharmacology, teaching, research, and academic support within the department. The Senior Resident will assist in educating undergraduate and postgraduate students, participate in research projects, provide clinical pharmacology services, and support faculty members in their academic and administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Pharmacology and Patient Care:
    • Assist in clinical pharmacology services by providing consultations on the rational use of drugs, adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, and dosage adjustments in patients.
    • Participate in the pharmacovigilance program, including reporting and monitoring adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and promoting safe drug use.
    • Work closely with clinical teams to ensure appropriate drug selection, dosing, and monitoring in various therapeutic areas.
    • Contribute to the development and review of treatment protocols and drug formulary guidelines.
    • Participate in rounds and case discussions, offering insights into drug-related problems and therapeutic management.
  2. Teaching & Instruction:
    • Assist in delivering lectures, practical sessions, and tutorials to undergraduate and postgraduate students in pharmacology, covering topics such as pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, clinical pharmacology, and toxicology.
    • Supervise laboratory sessions and practicals, helping students understand the clinical and experimental aspects of pharmacology.
    • Provide academic support and guidance to students, mentoring them on drug-related topics and research projects.
    • Assist in the preparation of teaching materials, exams, quizzes, and other assessments to evaluate students’ understanding of pharmacology.
    • Evaluate and provide feedback on student assignments, practicals, and clinical performance.
  3. Research and Scholarly Activities:
    • Participate in research projects related to pharmacology, including areas such as drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, clinical pharmacology, drug safety, and toxicology.
    • Contribute to the design, execution, and analysis of research studies, including laboratory experiments, clinical trials, and observational studies.
    • Assist in writing research papers, reviewing literature, and preparing research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
    • Present research findings at departmental seminars, conferences, and symposia.
    • Collaborate with faculty members on multidisciplinary research initiatives within the pharmacology and clinical fields.
  4. Academic and Administrative Duties:
    • Participate in departmental meetings, academic committees, and curriculum development activities to improve the quality of teaching and research.
    • Assist in the development of educational materials, teaching plans, and laboratory manuals.
    • Support the department with administrative tasks related to course coordination, student evaluation, and record-keeping.
    • Contribute to departmental events, workshops, and seminars, promoting pharmacology education and research within the institution.
    • Help organize and participate in academic outreach activities, such as public lectures, workshops, and continuing education programs.
  5. Supervision & Mentorship:
    • Supervise and mentor junior residents, interns, and students in both clinical and laboratory settings.
    • Provide guidance to students on their research projects, ensuring proper methodology, ethics, and scientific rigor.
    • Offer career guidance to postgraduate students and junior residents, helping them navigate their professional paths.
  6. Professional Development:
    • Engage in continuous learning and professional development to keep up-to-date with the latest advances in pharmacology, therapeutics, and drug safety.
    • Participate in workshops, conferences, and seminars related to pharmacology, clinical pharmacology, and drug development.
    • Engage in activities that promote professional growth, including training programs and certifications in clinical pharmacology and related fields.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education:
    • M.B.B.S. or equivalent medical degree.
    • Postgraduate degree or enrollment in a postgraduate program (M.D./M.S.) in Pharmacology or a related field is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Experience:
    • At least 1-2 years of clinical experience in pharmacology or a related field, including exposure to clinical pharmacology, therapeutics, and pharmacovigilance.
