Senior Resident Pediatrics

Position Overview: The Senior Resident in Pediatrics is a critical team member responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to pediatric patients, ranging from newborns to adolescents. This role involves a combination of patient care, education, and research activities, all under the supervision of attending pediatricians. The Senior Resident will also mentor junior residents and medical students, ensuring high standards of pediatric care are maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:
    • Provide direct medical care to pediatric patients, including conducting physical exams, diagnosing illnesses, developing treatment plans, and managing follow-ups.
    • Perform and assist in various pediatric procedures such as lumbar punctures, intubations, and central line placements.
    • Respond to pediatric emergencies and provide advanced life support when necessary.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, social workers, and specialists, to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Supervision and Mentorship:
    • Supervise and mentor junior residents and medical students, providing guidance on clinical practices and professional development.
    • Conduct teaching rounds, bedside teaching sessions, and case discussions.
    • Review and provide feedback on documentation, including patient notes and treatment plans prepared by junior residents.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Participate in departmental meetings, morbidity and mortality conferences, and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Ensure proper documentation and timely completion of medical records in compliance with hospital policies and regulations.
    • Assist in the coordination and scheduling of resident rotations and on-call assignments.
  • Research and Education:
    • Engage in clinical research projects, contributing to the advancement of pediatric care.
    • Stay updated on the latest developments in pediatric medicine by attending conferences, workshops, and continuing medical education (CME) programs.
    • Participate in the development and implementation of pediatric care protocols and guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Medical Degree (MBBS, MS/MD or DNB) from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of a residency program in Pediatrics.
