Senior Resident Microbiology

Job Summary:

The Senior Resident in Microbiology will be responsible for assisting in diagnostic microbiological services, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting research, and supporting infection control programs. The role demands hands-on experience in microbiological techniques, knowledge of infectious diseases, and the ability to manage laboratory operations under supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical and Laboratory Duties:

• Perform and supervise microbiological investigations including bacteriology, mycology, virology, parasitology, and molecular diagnostics.
• Interpret culture and sensitivity reports, serological tests, and PCR-based diagnostics.
• Maintain quality control and ensure timely reporting of test results.
• Assist in implementation of antimicrobial stewardship and hospital infection control programs.

Academic and Teaching Responsibilities:

• Teach and guide MBBS and postgraduate (MD/MSc) students as per university and MCI/NMC guidelines.
• Participate in departmental seminars, journal clubs, and case discussions.
• Assist in setting examination papers and evaluating students.

Research Activities:

• Participate in departmental research projects and initiate independent research.
• Publish scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
• Assist in thesis guidance for PG students.

Administrative and Miscellaneous:

• Maintain proper documentation and records.
• Supervise laboratory staff and technicians.
• Attend hospital committees when required (e.g., Infection Control Committee).
• Perform other duties as assigned by the HOD.

Qualifications:

• Essential: MBBS + MD in Microbiology from a recognized institution.
• Desirable: Experience in molecular diagnostics, hospital infection control, or antimicrobial stewardship.
