Senior Resident General Surgery

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and competent Senior Resident in General Surgery to join our surgical team. The role provides advanced training and hands-on experience in the diagnosis, surgical management, and post-operative care of patients. The Senior Resident will work under the supervision of consultants and participate actively in clinical, academic, and emergency services within the department.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties:

• Manage pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care of surgical patients.
• Assist and perform general surgical procedures under supervision.
• Participate in daily ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and emergency surgical services.
• Monitor and document patient progress, complications, and outcomes.
• Ensure timely investigation and management of surgical cases.
• Provide emergency coverage for trauma and acute abdomen cases on a rotational basis.

Academic & Teaching Responsibilities:

• Participate in academic activities including case presentations, journal clubs, seminars, and clinical meetings.
• Teach and mentor junior residents, medical interns, and students.
• Contribute to departmental research and quality improvement projects.
• Assist in organizing surgical skills workshops and simulation training.

Administrative & Other Duties:

• Maintain accurate medical records and adhere to hospital documentation standards.
• Participate in departmental audits, mortality and morbidity meetings, and infection control initiatives.
• Comply with hospital policies, medical ethics, and patient confidentiality norms.
• Assist in the development of clinical protocols and surgical pathways.

Qualifications:

Required:

• MBBS degree from a recognized institution.
• MS / DNB in General Surgery or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
• Registration with the national/state medical council (e.g., NMC/MCI, or equivalent).
• 1–2 years of prior experience as a Junior/Senior Resident (if applicable).
