Senior Resident General Surgery

Job Summary: The Senior Resident in General Surgery is responsible for providing high-quality care to patients under the supervision of attending surgeons. This role involves hands-on surgical experience, patient management, and contributing to the overall functioning of the surgical department. The Senior Resident is expected to take on increasing levels of responsibility, demonstrating leadership, surgical skill, and clinical decision-making ability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:
    • Conduct thorough pre-operative and post-operative assessments.
    • Perform and assist in a wide range of surgical procedures, including emergency surgeries.
    • Manage inpatient and outpatient care, including ward rounds, consultations, and follow-up appointments.
    • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Surgical Procedures:
    • Act as the primary surgeon for minor to moderate complexity procedures under the guidance of the attending surgeon.
    • Assist in complex surgeries, gaining experience in advanced surgical techniques.
    • Manage the operating room team, ensuring adherence to surgical protocols and patient safety standards.
  • Clinical Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including surgical notes, discharge summaries, and treatment plans.
    • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and legal requirements for medical documentation.
  • Education and Training:
    • Mentor junior residents and medical students, providing guidance and support in their clinical training.
    • Participate in departmental educational activities, including teaching rounds, conferences, and seminars.
    • Engage in continuous professional development, staying updated on the latest surgical techniques and medical advancements.
  • Emergency Care:
    • Participate in on-call rotations, providing emergency surgical care as needed.
    • Respond to surgical emergencies, including trauma cases, with prompt and effective intervention.
  • Research and Quality Improvement:
    • Contribute to clinical research projects within the department.
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and surgical care processes.



      Qualifications:

      Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
      Qualification – MBBS, MS/MD
