Senior Resident General Medicine

Position Summary:

The Senior Resident in General Medicine plays a pivotal role in providing inpatient and outpatient care, managing medical emergencies, and supporting academic and research activities in the department. As an advanced trainee, the Senior Resident functions under the guidance of faculty members while assuming increasing responsibility for patient management, teaching junior staff, and participating in clinical and academic development.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties:

• Manage patients in outpatient departments (OPDs), wards, emergency units, and ICUs under supervision.
• Perform initial assessments, diagnostic workup, and formulate management plans.
• Carry out and interpret diagnostic investigations, including ECG, ABG, PFTs, etc.
• Monitor patients’ progress and modify treatment based on clinical evolution.
• Handle medical emergencies and participate in code blue situations.
• Ensure proper documentation of clinical notes, discharge summaries, and medico-legal records.

Academic and Teaching Responsibilities:

• Attend and participate in departmental academic activities such as case presentations, journal clubs, seminars, and mortality meetings.
• Assist in teaching undergraduate students and mentoring interns and junior residents.
• Contribute to examination and assessment preparation, both theory and practical.

Research and Scholarly Work:

• Participate in departmental research projects and data collection.
• Present research work at academic forums and conferences.
• Assist in the preparation of manuscripts and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Administrative and Other Duties:

• Participate in hospital committees, quality improvement programs, and accreditation activities.
• Assist in implementing protocols and guidelines as directed by the faculty or institution.
• Perform on-call duties, night shifts, and emergency cover as per roster.

Qualifications:

• Educational:
  • MBBS from a recognized medical institution
  • MD/DNB in General Medicine or Internal Medicine from an NMC/MCI-recognized institution
• Registration: Valid medical registration with the State/National Medical Council.

Desirable Experience:

• Exposure to subspecialties such as Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, etc.
• Participation in academic research or clinical audits
• Certification in BLS/ACLS or equivalent life support training
