Job Summary: The Senior Resident in Biochemistry is an advanced clinical training position that combines academic and clinical responsibilities. This role involves assisting in the teaching of biochemistry to undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting laboratory-based research, and providing support in clinical biochemistry services. The Senior Resident will actively contribute to the educational environment of the department, enhance their academic and clinical expertise, and support faculty in research activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching & Instruction:
- Assist in the teaching of biochemistry to undergraduate medical, dental, nursing, and allied health students, including delivering lectures, conducting tutorials, and supervising practical laboratory sessions.
- Provide mentorship and academic support to students, assisting them with understanding complex biochemical concepts, laboratory techniques, and experimental protocols.
- Supervise laboratory practicals, guiding students through experiments, ensuring safety standards are met, and promoting active learning.
- Participate in the preparation, design, and updating of educational materials, lab manuals, and assessments.
- Assist in conducting formative and summative assessments for students, including lab reports, quizzes, written exams, and oral examinations.
- Clinical & Laboratory Services:
- Assist in the management and operation of clinical biochemistry labs, providing support in biochemical analyses related to diagnostic services.
- Work closely with clinical teams to interpret laboratory results and integrate biochemical knowledge into clinical decision-making, particularly in areas such as metabolic disorders, endocrinology, and clinical biochemistry.
- Participate in clinical rounds and case discussions with the medical team, applying biochemical principles to clinical cases.
- Assist in the evaluation, validation, and implementation of new diagnostic tests and biochemical methodologies in the clinical setting.
- Research & Scholarly Activities:
- Participate in research projects related to clinical biochemistry, molecular biology, or metabolic disorders.
- Conduct experiments, analyze data, and contribute to writing research papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Present research findings at academic conferences, workshops, or departmental seminars to enhance the department’s research profile.
- Collaborate with faculty members and other researchers in the design and execution of interdisciplinary research projects.
- Engage in evidence-based research that advances the understanding of biochemistry in clinical practice.
- Academic & Administrative Duties:
- Assist in the development and continual improvement of the biochemistry curriculum, ensuring it is up-to-date with the latest scientific and technological advances.
- Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum reviews, and academic planning sessions.
- Assist with the maintenance of laboratory resources and equipment, ensuring their availability and proper functioning for teaching and research purposes.
- Contribute to academic administration, including the preparation of reports, course evaluations, and student records.
- Supervision & Mentorship:
- Provide guidance to junior residents, medical students, and research assistants, offering mentorship in both academic and clinical biochemistry.
- Help supervise postgraduate students’ research projects and provide feedback on their academic progress.
- Foster a collaborative learning environment and encourage the professional development of trainees.
- Professional Development & Continuous Learning:
- Stay updated on the latest developments in biochemistry, clinical research, and medical education through continuous professional development activities.
- Attend academic conferences, workshops, and seminars to enhance knowledge and expand professional networks.
- Contribute to the overall academic growth of the department by engaging in faculty development and training programs.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education:
- M.B.B.S. or equivalent medical degree.
- Postgraduate qualification (M.D., M.S.) in Biochemistry or a related field is preferred, but not required for some programs.
- Experience:
- At least 1-2 years of experience as a Junior Resident or Medical Officer, with clinical experience in biochemistry and laboratory work.
Qualification – MBBS, MS/MD
