Professor Respiratory Medicine

Job Summary:

The Professor of Respiratory Medicine will contribute to the academic, clinical, and research missions of the Department of Respiratory Medicine. This role involves teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, providing expert clinical care in respiratory medicine, and leading innovative research in pulmonary health. The position also offers opportunities for leadership in curriculum development, mentorship, and the advancement of clinical practices and policies in the field of respiratory care.


Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Education:

  • Develop and deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, and practical sessions for medical students, residents, and fellows in respiratory medicine, including respiratory physiology, pathophysiology, diagnostics, and treatments.
  • Supervise and mentor students, residents, and fellows in clinical settings, guiding them in diagnostic techniques, therapeutic interventions, and patient management for respiratory diseases.
  • Design, implement, and update curricula in respiratory medicine, ensuring it is evidence-based and reflects current best practices in the field.
  • Lead clinical teaching on hospital or outpatient rotations, including hands-on training and case-based discussions.
  • Foster an interactive, engaging learning environment through the use of modern teaching methods such as simulation, e-learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Clinical Duties:

  • Provide expert care to patients with a wide range of respiratory conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, tuberculosis, and sleep apnea.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams in the management of complex cases, coordinating care with pulmonologists, respiratory therapists, thoracic surgeons, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Oversee diagnostic procedures such as bronchoscopy, spirometry, pulmonary function tests, and imaging interpretation, ensuring high-quality clinical outcomes.
  • Ensure patient care is evidence-based, ethical, and in accordance with the latest clinical guidelines.
  • Maintain a patient-centered approach while managing both inpatient and outpatient respiratory care.

Research and Scholarship:

  • Lead and participate in clinical, translational, or basic research projects related to respiratory diseases, treatment innovations, and pulmonary health.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and present them at national and international medical conferences.
  • Seek research funding through grants, collaborations, and partnerships with academic institutions, hospitals, and industry partners.
  • Supervise and mentor research students, residents, and fellows, guiding them in conducting original research and scholarly writing.
  • Contribute to the advancement of respiratory medicine by developing new treatment strategies, diagnostic tools, and patient care practices based on research.

Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in departmental and university meetings, committees, and activities focused on curriculum development, faculty development, and strategic planning.
  • Serve as a role model for professionalism, clinical excellence, and academic integrity within the department and broader healthcare community.
  • Assist with accreditation processes and contribute to departmental goals, ensuring compliance with academic and clinical standards.
  • Provide leadership in initiatives aimed at improving patient care quality, safety, and clinical outcomes in respiratory medicine.
  • Take an active role in faculty recruitment, development, and mentorship within the department.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Medical degree (MBBS + MS/MD or equivalent) with board certification in Respiratory Medicine or Pulmonology.
  • Completion of advanced fellowship training in a specialized area of respiratory medicine (e.g., interventional pulmonology, sleep medicine, pulmonary hypertension) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of clinical experience in respiratory medicine, with a demonstrated ability to manage complex respiratory conditions and lead teams.
