Job Summary:
The Professor of Orthopedics is a senior academic and clinical leader responsible for providing high-quality teaching, performing complex orthopedic surgeries, mentoring junior faculty, and leading research initiatives. The role includes departmental development, academic excellence, and maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver lectures, bedside teaching, clinical demonstrations, and seminars for undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MS/DNB) students.
- Develop academic curricula, lesson plans, and evaluation methodologies in accordance with university and regulatory guidelines.
- Supervise and evaluate postgraduate theses, dissertations, and student projects.
- Conduct regular assessments and examinations in coordination with the academic office.
- Organize and lead academic forums such as journal clubs, interdepartmental meetings, and CME activities.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and manage a wide range of orthopedic conditions including trauma, joint replacements, sports injuries, spine disorders, and pediatric orthopedics.
- Perform complex surgical procedures and guide operative strategies.
- Oversee inpatient, outpatient, and emergency orthopedic services.
- Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, surgical safety standards, and documentation requirements.
- Provide mentorship and supervision to senior and junior residents, interns, and nursing staff.
Research & Innovation:
- Initiate and lead departmental research projects and clinical trials.
- Publish scholarly articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
- Guide junior faculty and residents in research methodology, ethics, and publication.
- Represent the institution in academic forums, symposia, and national/international conferences.
Administrative & Leadership:
- Assist the Head of Department in planning and managing departmental operations.
- Participate in faculty recruitment, training, appraisal, and mentoring.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies and NMC norms.
- Contribute to strategic planning, infrastructure development, and accreditation activities (NMC, NABH, etc.).
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration within the institution.
Qualifications:
- MBBS and MS / DNB in Orthopedics from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 10 years of teaching and clinical experience in Orthopedics, including at least 4 years as Associate Professor (as per NMC norms).
- Valid registration with National Medical Commission (NMC)/Medical Council of India and relevant State Medical Council.
