Professor Neurosurgery

Job Summary:

The Professor of Neurosurgery will be responsible for leading academic, clinical, and research activities within the Neurosurgery department. The role involves teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, performing advanced neurosurgical procedures, mentoring junior faculty and residents, and contributing to the advancement of neurosurgical sciences through research and innovation.


Key Responsibilities:

Academic Responsibilities:

  • Teach and train undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MCh/DNB) medical students.
  • Develop curriculum, academic programs, and teaching modules in Neurosurgery.
  • Supervise thesis work, clinical research, and academic projects of students and residents.
  • Conduct regular lectures, seminars, workshops, and bedside clinics.
  • Participate in examination and assessment duties as per university/board requirements.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and treat patients with neurosurgical conditions including cranial, spinal, vascular, and pediatric neurosurgery.
  • Perform complex neurosurgical procedures independently and lead surgical teams.
  • Participate in daily ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and emergency neurosurgical services.
  • Guide and supervise senior/junior residents and neurosurgery fellows in clinical work.
  • Promote and implement protocols for patient safety, surgical quality, and infection control.

Administrative & Leadership:

  • Oversee departmental operations, including staff scheduling, resource management, and interdepartmental coordination.
  • Contribute to the development of departmental policies, SOPs, and strategic planning.
  • Participate in recruitment and performance evaluation of junior faculty and staff.
  • Represent the department in institutional committees, conferences, and academic councils.

Research & Development:

  • Initiate and lead neurosurgical research projects and clinical trials.
  • Publish papers in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to academic literature.
  • Encourage innovation, academic collaboration, and interdisciplinary research.
  • Mentor students and faculty in research methodology and scientific writing.

Qualifications:

  • MBBS and MCh/DNB in Neurosurgery from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum [8–10] years of teaching and clinical experience in Neurosurgery (post-MCh), with at least 4 years as Associate Professor (as per NMC/UGC norms).
  • Registered with Medical Council of India / NMC and relevant State Medical Council.
