Job Summary:
The Professor of Microbiology is a senior academic leader responsible for teaching, mentoring, research, and departmental administration. The role involves delivering lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervising faculty and research scholars, managing diagnostic microbiology services, and ensuring compliance with academic and clinical standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Responsibilities:
- Deliver lectures and conduct practical classes for undergraduate (MBBS, BDS, Nursing, Allied Health) and postgraduate (MD Microbiology) students.
- Design and revise curricula in alignment with NMC and university norms.
- Supervise postgraduate thesis work and research projects.
- Organize and lead academic activities such as seminars, journal clubs, workshops, and case-based discussions.
- Participate in examination work, question paper setting, and academic audits.
Research & Development:
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in medical microbiology and infectious diseases.
- Publish high-quality research in indexed national and international journals.
- Secure research grants and collaborate with national/international research bodies.
- Guide junior faculty and PG students in research methodology and publication.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day functioning of the Microbiology department.
- Plan academic schedules, allocate responsibilities to faculty, and monitor performance.
- Prepare the department for inspections and accreditations (e.g., NMC, NAAC, NABL).
- Participate in institutional committees and contribute to strategic planning.
Clinical and Diagnostic Microbiology:
- Supervise hospital microbiology laboratory services including bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, serology, and molecular diagnostics.
- Ensure quality assurance, biosafety, and standard operating procedures are followed.
- Collaborate with clinical departments for infection control, antimicrobial stewardship, and outbreak investigations.
- Participate in hospital infection control committees and antibiogram analysis.
Qualifications:
- MBBS with MD in Microbiology from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 10 years of teaching and clinical/lab experience in Microbiology, with at least 4 years as Associate Professor (as per NMC norms).
- Must be registered with the National Medical Commission (NMC)/Medical Council of India and respective State Medical Council.
