Professor General Surgery

Position Summary:

The Professor of General Surgery is a senior academic and clinical leader responsible for advancing education, research, and clinical practice in general surgery. This role involves teaching and mentoring students and junior faculty, leading research initiatives, managing clinical services, and contributing to the strategic direction of the department and institution.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Teaching & Academic Leadership

  • Design, deliver, and oversee undergraduate and postgraduate surgical education.
  • Lead curriculum development, course planning, and assessment methods in surgery.
  • Supervise postgraduate students (MS/MD/PhD), interns, and residents.
  • Ensure high standards of academic integrity and excellence in teaching.

2. Clinical Practice

  • Provide expert-level clinical services in general surgery and supervise surgical procedures.
  • Guide surgical residents in operating rooms, wards, and outpatient departments.
  • Ensure patient safety, ethical clinical practice, and quality assurance.
  • Manage and develop clinical protocols and practice guidelines.

3. Research & Scholarly Activities

  • Lead independent and collaborative research projects in surgical sciences.
  • Publish regularly in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present research at national and international conferences.
  • Secure research funding through grants and institutional collaborations.
  • Mentor junior faculty and residents in research methodology and publication.

4. Administrative & Institutional Leadership

  • Serve as a senior member of the Department of Surgery, contributing to departmental strategy and governance.
  • Participate in institutional committees, accreditation processes, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitate faculty development programs and interdepartmental academic initiatives.
  • Represent the department at institutional and external academic forums.

Qualifications:

  • MBBS (or equivalent) and postgraduate qualification in General Surgery (e.g., MS, MCh, FRCS, or equivalent).
  • Registration with relevant Medical Council (e.g., MCI/NMC in India, GMC in the UK, etc.).
  • Minimum 10–15 years of teaching and clinical experience, with at least 3–5 years as Associate Professor.
  • Proven record of scholarly publications and academic contributions.
  • Leadership in surgical education, research, or clinical practice.
