Professor General Medicine

Job Summary:

The Professor of General Medicine will be a senior faculty member in the Department of General Medicine, contributing to teaching, clinical care, research, and administrative duties. The role involves providing expert clinical care to patients with a wide range of medical conditions, mentoring medical students and residents, leading research initiatives in internal medicine, and participating in the development of curricula and academic programs.


Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Education:

  • Design, deliver, and evaluate high-quality lectures, seminars, and practical sessions on general medicine topics, including diagnostic methods, treatment strategies, and patient management.
  • Supervise and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows during their clinical rotations, guiding them in diagnostic reasoning, clinical examination, and management of common and complex medical conditions.
  • Develop and implement curriculum updates for general medicine courses, ensuring they are evidence-based and aligned with current medical practice.
  • Participate in examinations and assessments, evaluating the academic performance of students, residents, and fellows.
  • Promote active learning through case-based discussions, clinical skills workshops, and simulation exercises.
  • Lead interdisciplinary educational activities and collaborate with other medical and health sciences departments to ensure integrated, comprehensive learning experiences.

Clinical Duties:

  • Provide expert clinical care in a hospital, clinic, or outpatient setting, managing patients with a broad range of medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, respiratory diseases, infections, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, and musculoskeletal diseases.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team in patient management, ensuring coordinated care that addresses all aspects of patient health.
  • Oversee complex diagnostic evaluations, clinical decision-making, and treatment plans for patients with undiagnosed or complex conditions.
  • Participate in on-call and emergency care services, providing medical expertise during critical situations.
  • Continuously monitor and assess patient outcomes, ensuring that care practices align with the latest clinical guidelines and best practices.

Research and Scholarship:

  • Lead and engage in high-quality clinical, translational, or basic research in general medicine or related fields, such as chronic disease management, patient safety, or medical education.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed medical journals and present at national and international conferences.
  • Secure research funding through grants and collaborations with academic, government, and private sector partners.
  • Supervise and mentor medical students, residents, and junior faculty involved in research projects, providing guidance on research design, methodology, data analysis, and academic writing.
  • Encourage and foster research collaborations with other departments, healthcare institutions, and industry partners.

Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the overall management and development of the Department of General Medicine by participating in departmental meetings, committees, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Provide leadership in faculty development, helping to mentor junior faculty and supporting their professional growth in teaching, research, and clinical practice.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, accreditation processes, and the creation of new educational programs in general medicine.
  • Represent the department and institution in professional organizations, conferences, and collaborative research initiatives.
  • Lead or contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the department and hospital, ensuring that patient care meets the highest standards.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Medical degree (MD, MBBS, or equivalent) with board certification in Internal Medicine or General Medicine.
  • Fellowship training in a subspecialty of internal medicine is preferred but not required.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in clinical practice, including a significant amount of time in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and junior faculty.
