Job Summary:
The Professor of Forensic Medicine is a senior academic and medico-legal expert responsible for leading teaching, research, and medico-legal services within the institution. The role includes strategic departmental leadership, curriculum development, research guidance, medico-legal consultancy, and compliance with educational and legal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Leadership:
- Deliver expert lectures, practical training, and case-based sessions in forensic medicine and toxicology to undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate students (if applicable).
- Develop and revise curriculum content in alignment with NMC/university standards.
- Guide Assistant and Associate Professors in pedagogy, assessments, and student mentorship.
- Supervise internal assessments and participate in examination-related duties, including paper setting and evaluation.
Research & Publications:
- Lead independent and collaborative research in forensic pathology, medical jurisprudence, toxicology, and clinical forensic medicine.
- Supervise PG dissertations (where applicable) and UG research projects.
- Publish in reputed national/international indexed journals.
- Promote research culture in the department and guide faculty in project development and grant applications.
Medico-Legal Services:
- Supervise and conduct medico-legal autopsies, clinical forensic examinations, and toxicological investigations.
- Oversee preparation and quality control of medico-legal documentation and court reports.
- Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings and liaise with law enforcement and judicial authorities.
- Ensure strict adherence to medico-legal protocols, ethical standards, and government regulations.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Head the Department of Forensic Medicine, managing academic schedules, staffing, departmental budgets, and inspections.
- Coordinate with the Principal, Dean, and regulatory bodies (e.g., NMC, NAAC) for audits and accreditation.
- Organize departmental CMEs, workshops, medico-legal training, and awareness programs.
- Maintain records of teaching, medico-legal cases, autopsies, and departmental assets.
Qualifications:
- Educational: MBBS with MD in Forensic Medicine from an institution recognized by the NMC.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of teaching experience in Forensic Medicine, including at least 4 years as Associate Professor (as per NMC norms).
- Registration: Must be registered with the National Medical Commission (NMC)/Medical Council of India and the respective State Medical Council.
