Position Overview:
The Professor of Forensic Medicine provides academic leadership in teaching, research, and service in the field of forensic medicine. The role involves delivering lectures, conducting practical sessions, supervising postgraduate students, and contributing to the institution’s forensic services. The professor is also responsible for carrying out forensic examinations, medico-legal autopsies, and providing expert witness testimony in legal cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching:
- Design, develop, and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in forensic medicine, toxicology, and medical jurisprudence.
- Supervise students in practical sessions, autopsy rooms, and labs.
- Prepare and update curriculum, ensuring that teaching materials reflect current trends and advancements in forensic medicine.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to students pursuing research and careers in forensic medicine.
- Evaluate and assess student performance through exams, projects, and presentations.
- Research:
- Initiate and lead research projects in forensic pathology, toxicology, and related fields.
- Publish research findings in reputable academic journals and present at national and international conferences.
- Seek funding for research projects through grants and collaborations with other academic institutions and forensic agencies.
- Clinical Forensic Work:
- Perform medico-legal autopsies and forensic examinations.
- Analyze forensic evidence and prepare detailed forensic reports.
- Serve as an expert witness in court, providing testimony on forensic cases.
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, legal professionals, and other forensic experts in ongoing cases.
- Administration and Service:
- Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum planning, and academic committees.
- Assist with the development of institutional policies regarding forensic services and medical education.
- Mentor junior faculty members and post-doctoral fellows.
- Coordinate with other departments for interdisciplinary teaching and research efforts.
- Community and Professional Engagement:
- Engage with external agencies such as the police, judiciary, and forensic labs to contribute to the justice system.
- Provide consultation and forensic advisory services to legal professionals and government bodies.
- Participate in continuous medical education (CME) programs and community outreach related to forensic medicine.
Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements:
MD or PhD in Forensic Medicine or related field. - Experience:
- At least 5-10 years of experience in teaching forensic medicine and conducting forensic examinations.
- Proven track record of academic publications and successful research projects.
- Experience in giving expert witness testimony in legal cases is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of forensic pathology, toxicology, and legal aspects of forensic medicine.
- Excellent communication and teaching skills.
- Proficiency in forensic techniques, evidence handling, and medico-legal documentation.
- Ability to work in high-pressure environments, especially when dealing with legal and police cases.
- Leadership and organizational skills.
