Position Summary:
The Professor of Community Medicine is a senior academic and administrative position responsible for leading teaching, research, and public health initiatives within the department. The role involves guiding medical students and postgraduate trainees, developing public health programs, conducting impactful research, and contributing to institutional policy and community outreach. The professor is expected to set academic standards, mentor faculty, and enhance the visibility and effectiveness of the department.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic & Teaching Duties:
- Plan and deliver lectures, tutorials, field visits, and practical sessions for undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate students (MD Community Medicine).
- Supervise postgraduate theses and research work.
- Develop curriculum and educational programs in alignment with the latest public health and epidemiological trends.
- Conduct internal assessments, examinations, and student evaluations.
- Organize and participate in academic programs like CMEs, seminars, workshops, and public health awareness campaigns.
Research Responsibilities:
- Initiate and lead research projects in public health, epidemiology, health systems, and related areas.
- Publish high-quality research papers in indexed national and international journals.
- Guide junior faculty and students in research design, methodology, and publication.
- Apply for research grants and collaborate with governmental and non-governmental public health bodies.
Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities:
- Head the Department of Community Medicine (if assigned) and oversee academic and operational activities.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards (e.g., NMC, NAAC, NABH).
- Participate in institutional and departmental committees and quality assurance activities.
- Lead community outreach programs, field practice area coordination, and health camps.
- Liaise with public health departments and local health authorities for collaborative projects.
Community & Public Health Engagement:
- Design and implement community-based health interventions and programs.
- Monitor and evaluate health indicators in rural/urban health training centers.
- Provide expert input in national health programs and policy advocacy efforts.
- Promote health education, disease prevention, and awareness at the community level.
Qualifications:
- Educational: MBBS with MD (Community Medicine / Preventive & Social Medicine) from a recognized university/institution.
- Experience:
- Minimum 8–10 years of teaching and research experience in Community Medicine, including 4–5 years as an Associate Professor (per regulatory body norms such as NMC or equivalent).
- Demonstrated record of research publications and teaching excellence.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong academic and research background in public health and epidemiology
- Leadership and administrative abilities in managing academic departments
- Proficiency in biostatistics, health program evaluation, and policy analysis
- Excellent communication, mentoring, and inter-departmental collaboration skills
- Familiarity with national health programs, surveillance systems, and community-based interventions
Desirable Attributes:
- Member of national/international public health organizations (e.g., IAPSM, WHO, CDC collaborations)
- Participation in health policy formulation or advisory roles
- Experience with digital health tools and data-driven public health initiatives
