Job Summary:
The Professor of Community Medicine is a senior academic leader responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, advancing research, and guiding public health initiatives. The role involves academic leadership, curriculum development, postgraduate training, community outreach, and active participation in institutional governance. The Professor is expected to lead by example in teaching, research, ethics, and public health service.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic & Teaching:
- Deliver lectures and practical sessions for undergraduate (MBBS, BDS, Nursing, Allied Health) and postgraduate (MD in Community Medicine) programs.
- Develop and periodically revise the curriculum in alignment with regulatory body guidelines (e.g., NMC, WHO standards).
- Supervise MD theses and mentor PhD scholars (if applicable).
- Coordinate and lead internal and external academic audits and assessments.
- Promote competency-based medical education and innovative teaching methods.
Research & Publications:
- Lead original, community-based, or multi-disciplinary research projects.
- Publish consistently in indexed, peer-reviewed journals.
- Mentor junior faculty and students in research methodology and publication ethics.
- Apply for and manage extramural research grants and funding.
Community Health & Outreach:
- Lead the planning and implementation of field practice programs in rural and urban health training centers.
- Collaborate with government health departments, NGOs, and international agencies on public health programs.
- Oversee health awareness campaigns, epidemiological surveillance, and intervention projects.
- Monitor and evaluate national health programs at the community level.
Leadership & Administration:
- Serve as Head of Department or program coordinator when designated.
- Provide mentorship to junior faculty and staff for academic growth and promotion.
- Coordinate Continuing Medical Education (CME), conferences, and workshops.
- Ensure compliance with institutional, regulatory (e.g., NMC, UGC), and accreditation standards.
- Participate in academic committees, boards of studies, and curriculum reforms.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Educational Qualification:
- MBBS from a recognized institution.
- MD in Community Medicine / Preventive and Social Medicine from a recognized university.
- Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of teaching and research experience in a recognized medical college, including at least 5 years as Associate Professor.
- Desirable:
- Evidence of leadership in academic or public health projects.
- Substantial publication record in national/international indexed journals.
- Membership in relevant professional bodies or academic societies.
