Job Summary:
The Professor of Community Medicine will play a critical role in advancing the department’s educational, research, and service missions. This role combines leadership in teaching, research in public health, and involvement in community-based health initiatives. The Professor will be responsible for developing and delivering high-quality education in community medicine, leading innovative research to address public health challenges, and engaging with local and global communities to promote health equity.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Education:
- Design, develop, and deliver comprehensive courses in community medicine, public health, epidemiology, healthcare policy, social determinants of health, environmental health, and preventive medicine.
- Provide leadership in the development of curricula for medical students, residents, and public health professionals, ensuring that it is evidence-based and aligned with the latest trends and practices in community medicine.
- Supervise and mentor medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty in their clinical rotations, research projects, and community health initiatives.
- Lead educational seminars, workshops, and conferences on current topics in community medicine, disease prevention, and health promotion.
- Promote interdisciplinary learning and collaboration with other healthcare professionals, such as nurses, social workers, and public health specialists, to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of community-based care.
Research and Scholarship:
- Lead and conduct original research in community medicine, focusing on issues such as disease prevention, public health policy, health disparities, environmental health, and social determinants of health.
- Secure research funding through grants and collaborative partnerships with governmental, non-governmental, and international organizations.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international academic conferences.
- Supervise students, residents, and junior faculty in their research endeavors, providing guidance on study design, data analysis, and publication.
- Collaborate with other academic institutions, governmental agencies, and global health organizations on research projects that aim to improve health outcomes in underserved populations.
Community Engagement and Outreach:
- Engage with local communities, public health organizations, and governmental agencies to identify and address community health needs and public health challenges.
- Lead or contribute to community health assessments, interventions, and educational programs that promote disease prevention, health promotion, and access to care.
- Advocate for policies that address public health issues, improve healthcare access, and reduce health disparities in vulnerable populations.
- Develop and implement community-based health programs in collaboration with local health departments, non-governmental organizations, and international partners.
- Foster community relationships through service-oriented projects, health screenings, and health education programs targeting various population groups, including underserved and high-risk communities.
Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities:
- Participate in departmental leadership roles, including curriculum development, faculty development, and strategic planning for community medicine programs.
- Contribute to academic and clinical accreditation processes, ensuring that programs meet the highest standards of quality and excellence.
- Mentor junior faculty and support their development as educators, researchers, and clinicians.
- Serve as a leader in the department’s public health initiatives, including local, national, and global community health outreach programs.
- Represent the department at meetings, conferences, and professional organizations, advocating for community medicine and public health.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Medical degree (MD, MBBS, or equivalent) or doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, or equivalent) in public health, epidemiology, community medicine, or related field.
- Board certification in community medicine, preventive medicine, or public health is preferred.
- A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in community medicine, public health, or a related field, including substantial teaching and mentoring experience.
