Job Summary:
The Consultant in Vascular Surgery is responsible for delivering expert care in the diagnosis, management, and surgical treatment of diseases affecting the vascular system, including arteries, veins, and lymphatic circulation. This role involves both elective and emergency surgical care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and leadership in training, research, and clinical governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and manage patients with vascular diseases including aneurysms, peripheral arterial disease, carotid disease, and venous disorders.
- Perform complex vascular surgical procedures including open and endovascular techniques.
- Provide perioperative and postoperative care to vascular patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Participate in vascular emergency and on-call services as part of the department rota.
- Collaborate closely with interventional radiologists, cardiologists, general surgeons, and other medical staff to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, including residents and surgical trainees.
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs), vascular clinics, and ward rounds.
- Contribute to clinical audit, patient safety initiatives, and quality improvement projects.
- Maintain thorough and timely clinical documentation and reporting.
- Participate in medical education, training, and research initiatives within the department.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
- Postgraduate qualification in General and/or Vascular Surgery (e.g., MS, FRCS, MRCS with Vascular specialization, or equivalent).
- Full registration and license with relevant medical council or regulatory body.
- Fellowship or recognized specialist training in vascular surgery.
- Minimum 2 to 3 years post-certification experience in vascular surgery (can be adjusted based on level of seniority required).
- Proven competency in both open and endovascular surgical techniques.
