Role Summary:
The Consultant Urologist is responsible for providing comprehensive urological care, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with urological conditions. The role involves both outpatient and inpatient care, surgical interventions, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes. The Consultant Urologist also contributes to the education and training of junior medical staff and may engage in research activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Care:
- Diagnose and treat a wide range of urological conditions, including but not limited to kidney stones, urinary tract infections, prostate disorders, bladder dysfunctions, and urological cancers.
- Perform surgical procedures, including minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgeries, as well as open surgeries when necessary.
- Provide preoperative and postoperative care, including patient follow-up and management of complications.
- Conduct outpatient clinics, assessing and managing patients with acute and chronic urological conditions.
- Collaborate with other specialists and healthcare professionals to provide multidisciplinary care, especially in complex cases.
- Patient Management:
- Develop individualized care plans based on patient needs and evidence-based practices.
- Ensure thorough documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and progress in medical records.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis.
- Provide on-call services as required, managing emergencies and acute urological conditions.
- Education and Training:
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors, urology trainees, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in continuing medical education (CME) and keep up to date with the latest advancements in urology.
- Lead and participate in departmental meetings, case discussions, and clinical audits.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols.
- Research and Development:
- Engage in clinical research activities aimed at improving patient care and advancing the field of urology.
- Present research findings at conferences, seminars, and in peer-reviewed journals.
- Stay informed about new technologies, treatments, and best practices in urology.
- Administrative Duties:
- Participate in the development of the urology department’s strategic plan and service improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, hospital policies, and accreditation standards.
- Contribute to budget management, resource allocation, and department planning.
Qualifications:
- Essential:
- Medical degree (MBBS, MD, M. CH or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- Completion of specialist training in Urology with board certification or equivalent.
- Valid medical license to practice as a Consultant Urologist.
- Significant experience in the diagnosis and surgical management of urological conditions.
- Proficiency in minimally invasive surgical techniques and familiarity with robotic surgery.
