Consultant Pediatric

Job Summary:

The Consultant Pediatrician is responsible for providing expert medical care to infants, children, and adolescents, including diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of a wide range of childhood illnesses and developmental concerns. The role includes clinical leadership, involvement in teaching and mentoring, and participation in service development and quality improvement initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive medical care for pediatric patients in inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and neonatal settings.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses in children, including developmental and behavioral issues.
  • Supervise and participate in neonatal care, including resuscitation and stabilization of newborns.
  • Lead ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and case discussions for pediatric patients.
  • Collaborate with other pediatric subspecialists, nurses, and allied health professionals for holistic child care.
  • Support and supervise junior doctors, residents, and medical students in pediatric training and patient management.
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records and reports.
  • Participate in on-call duties for pediatric and neonatal emergencies as per departmental roster.
  • Engage in clinical governance, audits, research, and quality improvement programs.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of pediatric health programs and policies.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Pediatrics (e.g., MD, DNB, MRCPCH, FRCPCH, or equivalent).
  • Valid registration and license with the relevant national medical council or authority.
  • Fellowship or subspecialty training in neonatology, pediatric cardiology, pediatric neurology, etc., is an advantage (if required).
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of post-qualification experience in pediatrics.
  • Experience in managing pediatric emergencies and neonatal care is essential.
