Consultant Orthopedic

Job Summary:

The Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon is responsible for the diagnosis, surgical and non-surgical management, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions, including trauma, degenerative diseases, sports injuries, and congenital disorders. The role involves clinical leadership, surgical excellence, and active participation in education, research, and quality improvement initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and manage orthopedic conditions affecting bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles.
  • Perform elective and emergency orthopedic surgeries, including joint replacement, fracture fixation, arthroscopy, and spinal procedures (if applicable).
  • Lead outpatient orthopedic clinics, pre-operative assessments, and post-operative follow-ups.
  • Collaborate with anesthetists, physiotherapists, radiologists, and rehabilitation teams for comprehensive care.
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors, orthopedic residents, and trainees.
  • Participate in the orthopedic on-call rota for trauma and emergency cases.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate clinical records, surgical notes, and patient reports.
  • Engage in clinical audits, research, and quality improvement projects.
  • Uphold professional standards and follow hospital policies and national guidelines.
  • Support the development of new orthopedic services, technologies, and surgical techniques.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Orthopedic Surgery (e.g., MS Ortho, DNB, FRCS Ortho, MRCS Ortho, or equivalent).
  • Valid registration with the national medical council or relevant licensing authority.
  • Fellowship in a subspecialty area (e.g., joint replacement, spine surgery, sports medicine, pediatric orthopedics) is an advantage.
  • Minimum 2 to 6 years of post-specialization experience in orthopedic surgery.
  • Proficient in both elective and emergency orthopedic procedures.
