Consultant Laparoscopic Surgery

Job Summary:

The Consultant in Laparoscopic Surgery is responsible for delivering expert surgical care using minimally invasive techniques across a range of general surgical procedures. The role involves direct patient management, advanced laparoscopic surgery, teaching and supervision of junior staff, and contributions to clinical governance and quality improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and manage general surgical conditions requiring laparoscopic intervention, including but not limited to cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, bowel resection, and adhesiolysis.
• Perform advanced laparoscopic procedures with precision and adherence to safety standards.
• Lead pre-operative assessment, surgical planning, and post-operative care for laparoscopic patients.
• Participate in elective and emergency laparoscopic surgery services and on-call duties.
• Supervise, mentor, and train residents, junior doctors, and surgical trainees in laparoscopic techniques.
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, radiologists, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive perioperative care.
• Maintain thorough documentation of surgical procedures, outcomes, and follow-ups.
• Engage in surgical audit, research, and continuous improvement of minimally invasive surgical practices.
• Uphold hospital policies, infection control practices, and clinical protocols.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
• Postgraduate qualification in General Surgery (e.g., MS, FRCS, MRCS, or equivalent).
• Specialized training/fellowship in Laparoscopic or Minimally Invasive Surgery.
• Full registration and licensing with the relevant medical council or authority.
• Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience in laparoscopic surgery post-specialization.
• Demonstrated competence in performing a wide range of laparoscopic procedures independently.
