Job Summary:
The Consultant in Emergency Medicine is responsible for providing expert clinical care to patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies. The role involves leadership within the Emergency Department (ED), managing both critical and non-critical patients, ensuring efficient and high-quality patient flow, and supervising junior medical staff. The consultant also participates in clinical education, quality improvement, and emergency care protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality medical care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department with a wide range of acute illnesses and injuries.
- Stabilize and manage patients in critical and emergency situations, including trauma, cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, and other life-threatening conditions.
- Lead and oversee resuscitation efforts, trauma cases, and multidisciplinary team responses.
- Conduct clinical assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and determine appropriate treatment plans for emergency cases.
- Supervise, guide, and mentor junior doctors, residents, and emergency medicine trainees in clinical decision-making, procedures, and patient care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons, intensivists, radiologists, and nursing staff, to ensure comprehensive patient management.
- Participate in the Emergency Department’s on-call rota, providing emergency care during out-of-hours.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records and ensure appropriate documentation for all emergency care provided.
- Engage in clinical audits, quality improvement activities, and the development of new emergency care protocols and guidelines.
- Participate in educational programs, training, and research related to emergency medicine.
- Ensure that the department maintains high standards of patient safety, infection control, and adherence to hospital policies.
Qualifications and Experience:
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
- Postgraduate qualification in Emergency Medicine (e.g., MD, DNB, MRCP, CCT, MEM in Emergency Medicine, or equivalent).
- Valid registration with the national medical council or licensing authority.
- Fellowship or board certification in Emergency Medicine (preferred).
- Minimum Fresher to 3 years of post-specialization experience in Emergency Medicine.
- Experience in handling trauma, acute medical emergencies, and critical care situations.
