Job Summary:
The Consultant Anesthetist is responsible for providing expert anesthesia care to patients undergoing surgical and diagnostic procedures, ensuring their safety, comfort, and appropriate management of anesthesia. The role involves assessing patients preoperatively, administering anesthesia during surgery, and providing post-anesthesia care. Additionally, the consultant contributes to teaching, research, and quality improvement within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct preoperative assessments to evaluate patients’ medical history and suitability for anesthesia.
- Administer anesthesia for a wide range of surgeries, including general, regional, and local anesthesia, ensuring safe and effective delivery.
- Monitor patients closely during surgery and adjust anesthetic techniques as required to maintain stable vital signs.
- Provide post-operative care, including pain management, monitoring recovery, and addressing any complications.
- Manage emergency situations such as airway emergencies, cardiac arrest, or other critical events related to anesthesia.
- Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, and other medical professionals to ensure coordinated care for patients undergoing surgery.
- Supervise and mentor junior anesthesia staff, residents, and medical students in anesthesia techniques and procedures.
- Participate in on-call duties for anesthesia services, providing emergency anesthesia support when required.
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation of anesthesia care provided, including patient monitoring data and anesthetic plans.
- Engage in clinical audits, research, and continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
- Contribute to departmental meetings, educational sessions, and in-service training for anesthesia staff.
Qualifications and Experience:
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
- Postgraduate qualification in Anesthesiology (e.g., MD, DNB, FRCA, or equivalent).
- Full registration and licensing with the relevant national medical council or licensing authority.
- Fellowship or additional training in a subspecialty of anesthesia (e.g., pediatric, cardiac, or neuroanesthesia) is desirable.
- Minimum Fresher to 3 years of experience post-specialization as an anesthetist, including experience in a wide range of anesthesia techniques and patient care scenarios.
- Experience in the management of anesthesia for major surgeries, including complex and high-risk cases.
