Job Summary:
The Associate Professor in Pharmacology is an academic leadership role responsible for teaching pharmacology, conducting research, and contributing to the development of the department’s academic programs. This position involves delivering lectures, supervising laboratory work, mentoring students, and advancing research in the field of pharmacology. The Associate Professor will be expected to engage in curriculum development, student mentoring, research, and contribute to departmental and institutional service, with a focus on both the theoretical and clinical aspects of pharmacology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Education:
- Deliver lectures, seminars, and laboratory sessions on pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, clinical pharmacology, and toxicology to medical, dental, nursing, and allied health science students.
- Develop and implement course content, syllabi, and educational materials to ensure they align with current pharmacological knowledge and educational best practices.
- Supervise students in laboratory work, guiding them in experimental pharmacology, drug interactions, and laboratory techniques.
- Assess student performance through exams, assignments, practical evaluations, and case studies.
- Foster a student-centered teaching approach by creating an engaging learning environment and integrating modern teaching methods, such as case-based learning (CBL) and problem-based learning (PBL).
- Mentor and guide students, providing academic and career counseling and encouraging research opportunities.
- Research and Scholarly Activities:
- Lead and contribute to research in pharmacology, focusing on areas such as drug development, pharmacodynamics, toxicology, clinical pharmacology, or personalized medicine.
- Publish original research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
- Supervise postgraduate students and research staff in their pharmacological research projects, offering guidance in experimental design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.
- Seek external funding for research through grants and collaborative projects, contributing to the advancement of pharmacological sciences.
- Promote interdisciplinary research and collaborate with other departments and institutions to enhance the impact of pharmacological research.
- Curriculum Development and Improvement:
- Actively contribute to the design, review, and enhancement of the pharmacology curriculum, ensuring it meets current scientific standards and reflects advancements in pharmacology and medical education.
- Integrate innovative teaching tools and technologies (e.g., simulations, digital resources) to enhance student engagement and learning in pharmacology.
- Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning strategies, using student feedback and assessment outcomes to refine course delivery and content.
- Collaborate with faculty from other disciplines to integrate pharmacology content into clinical, basic science, and interdisciplinary curricula.
- Student Mentorship and Academic Support:
- Provide mentorship and academic guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students, particularly those pursuing research in pharmacology or related fields.
- Offer additional support to students struggling with course material, helping them to better understand complex pharmacological concepts.
- Foster a supportive academic environment that encourages critical thinking, research, and professional development in pharmacology and related fields.
- Provide opportunities for students to engage in pharmacology-related research projects and clinical trials.
- Departmental and Institutional Service:
- Participate in departmental meetings, academic committees, and institutional activities to support the overall goals of the Pharmacology Department and the institution.
- Contribute to departmental administration, including course coordination, exam preparation, grading, and maintaining academic standards.
- Actively participate in faculty recruitment and development activities, helping to build a strong and diverse team of pharmacology educators and researchers.
- Support the department’s engagement with external stakeholders, such as pharmaceutical industries, healthcare institutions, and government bodies, to promote pharmacology education and research.
- Professional Development:
- Stay updated with the latest research and advancements in pharmacology, toxicology, and related fields through continuous learning, attending professional conferences, and engaging in scholarly networks.
- Participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills, research capabilities, and leadership qualities.
- Promote a culture of lifelong learning within the department by sharing new knowledge and research findings with faculty and students.
Required Qualifications:
- Educational Qualifications:
- MBBS + MS/MD
- Experience:
- At least 5-7 years of teaching experience in pharmacology at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence.
- Significant experience in pharmacological research, including experience in conducting independent research, supervising graduate students, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience in clinical pharmacology or related areas, such as toxicology or pharmacokinetics, is highly desirable.
- Experience in curriculum development and integration of pharmacology content into interdisciplinary programs.
