Job Summary: The Associate Professor of Pharmacology is a senior academic position responsible for advanced teaching, research, and clinical pharmacology. The role involves leading the development and delivery of pharmacology courses, conducting high-level research, mentoring students and junior faculty, and contributing to the strategic direction and growth of the pharmacology department. The Associate Professor will be expected to maintain an active research profile, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and provide expertise in clinical pharmacology and therapeutics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching & Instruction:
- Design and deliver undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate courses in pharmacology, including subjects such as pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, clinical pharmacology, toxicology, and drug development.
- Develop, implement, and update course curricula, teaching materials, and laboratory exercises to reflect the latest advancements in pharmacological research and clinical practice.
- Supervise and mentor students in practical laboratory sessions, guiding them through experimental protocols and ensuring proper scientific and ethical conduct in research activities.
- Organize and facilitate seminars, case discussions, and workshops to enhance student engagement and knowledge retention.
- Evaluate student performance through exams, assignments, research projects, and laboratory evaluations, providing feedback and academic guidance.
- Advise and mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty members in their academic and professional development.
- Research & Scholarly Activities:
- Lead independent and collaborative research initiatives in areas such as clinical pharmacology, drug metabolism, pharmacogenomics, toxicology, pharmacovigilance, or drug development.
- Publish high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences, advancing the field of pharmacology.
- Seek external funding through research grants and industry partnerships to support research projects and expand the department’s research capabilities.
- Supervise and guide graduate students and research teams in the design and execution of research studies, including experimental work, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.
- Contribute to the development of new research methodologies and the exploration of innovative drug therapies, clinical practices, or pharmacological interventions.
- Foster a collaborative research environment by working with faculty members, clinicians, and external research institutions.
- Clinical Pharmacology & Patient Care:
- Provide expert guidance on the clinical use of pharmaceuticals, including therapeutic management, drug interactions, adverse drug reactions, and drug safety.
- Contribute to the development of clinical pharmacology training programs and integrate pharmacological concepts into clinical teaching for medical students, residents, and healthcare professionals.
- Collaborate with clinical departments in the optimization of drug therapy protocols and contribute to drug formulary management and therapeutic guidelines.
- Participate in clinical rounds, offering pharmacological expertise in patient care, treatment decisions, and therapeutic interventions.
- Departmental Leadership & Administration:
- Play an active role in the academic and administrative management of the pharmacology department, assisting with strategic planning, curriculum development, and departmental initiatives.
- Chair or participate in departmental committees focused on curriculum design, research initiatives, student evaluation, and faculty recruitment.
- Contribute to the review and update of the department’s policies, procedures, and accreditation requirements to maintain academic excellence.
- Help with the organization of departmental events, such as academic seminars, workshops, and conferences, to foster intellectual exchange and promote the department’s research and educational goals.
- Manage laboratory resources and oversee the procurement of materials, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and enhancing the quality of teaching and research activities.
- Supervision & Mentorship:
- Mentor junior faculty members, residents, and students, providing guidance on teaching, research, and career development.
- Encourage the professional growth of faculty members by helping them navigate tenure and promotion processes, research funding opportunities, and academic leadership roles.
- Supervise students’ research projects, including guiding them through research design, methodology, data collection, and manuscript preparation.
- Professional Development & Service:
- Stay current with developments in pharmacology, clinical practices, and research by attending conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities.
- Participate in professional organizations related to pharmacology and pharmacological education, including serving as a reviewer for journals, participating in academic conferences, and collaborating with industry stakeholders.
- Contribute to the broader academic community by giving guest lectures, writing textbook chapters, or serving on professional committees or advisory boards.
- Actively engage in outreach activities to promote the department’s research and educational programs, including engaging with healthcare professionals, government agencies, and pharmaceutical industries.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field (M.D. with a specialization in pharmacology or clinical pharmacology is also considered).
- Postdoctoral experience in pharmacology, clinical pharmacology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of teaching experience at the university level, including course development, delivery, and assessment.
