Job Summary:
The Associate Professor of Orthopedics plays a critical role in teaching, clinical service delivery, and research. The position involves training undergraduate and postgraduate students, managing orthopedic cases including surgeries, supervising junior faculty and residents, and contributing to departmental development and research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MS/DNB) students in Orthopedics.
- Prepare and deliver lectures, clinical demonstrations, and practical training.
- Supervise thesis/dissertation work and academic projects of postgraduate students.
- Participate in curriculum development, assessments, and academic planning.
- Conduct academic activities like journal clubs, case discussions, and seminars.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and manage orthopedic conditions, including trauma, joint disorders, spine, and pediatric orthopedics.
- Perform surgical procedures independently and assist in complex surgeries.
- Provide outpatient, inpatient, and emergency orthopedic care.
- Guide and supervise junior faculty, residents, and interns in clinical work.
- Ensure high standards of patient safety, surgical hygiene, and documentation.
Research & Development:
- Conduct clinical and academic research in the field of Orthopedics.
- Publish research findings in indexed peer-reviewed journals.
- Participate in research collaborations, CME programs, and conferences.
- Guide students and residents in research methodology and ethics.
Administrative & Departmental Support:
- Assist the HOD in managing departmental operations, rosters, and resource allocation.
- Participate in institutional committees, audits, and accreditations.
- Contribute to faculty development and departmental strategic initiatives.
- Support community outreach and extension activities, if applicable.
Qualifications:
- MBBS and MS / DNB in Orthopedics from an MCI/NMC-recognized institution.
- Minimum 5 years of teaching and clinical experience in Orthopedics after post-graduation, including 4 years as Assistant Professor (as per NMC norms).
- Valid registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) / Medical Council of India and State Medical Council.
