Associate Professor Microbiology

Job Summary:

The Associate Professor in Microbiology is responsible for academic leadership, delivering high-quality teaching, guiding research, and contributing to diagnostic microbiology services. The role includes mentoring faculty and students, developing the curriculum, and participating in the administration of the department in line with the standards set by NMC (National Medical Commission) or relevant authorities.


Key Responsibilities:

Academic Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate (MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, etc.) and postgraduate (MD, MSc) students as per the curriculum.
  • Supervise postgraduate dissertations and PhD research projects.
  • Conduct lectures, practicals, tutorials, seminars, and journal clubs.
  • Participate in curriculum development and academic audits.

Clinical & Laboratory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and interpret routine and specialized microbiological investigations (bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, molecular diagnostics).
  • Oversee quality assurance and laboratory accreditation processes (e.g., NABL).
  • Guide the infection control program and antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.
  • Provide expert opinion in diagnosis and treatment support for infectious diseases.

Research and Publications:

  • Initiate and lead departmental and institutional research projects.
  • Publish regularly in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
  • Apply for research funding and grants from national/international agencies.
  • Guide faculty and students in research methodology and scientific writing.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head of Department in planning and managing departmental activities.
  • Supervise junior faculty (Assistant Professors, Senior Residents, Tutors).
  • Participate in committees (e.g., Academic Council, Research Committee, Infection Control Committee).
  • Ensure compliance with NMC norms and institutional policies.

Eligibility Criteria:

Essential Qualifications:

  • MD (Microbiology) or equivalent qualification from an NMC-recognized institute.

Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years teaching and research experience as Assistant Professor in a recognized medical college.
  • At least 2 publications (original articles) as first or corresponding author in indexed journals as per NMC guidelines.
