Job Summary:
The Associate Professor of Microbiology plays a key academic and clinical leadership role in the department. The role involves teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervising research, managing diagnostic microbiology services, and supporting the department in achieving academic, clinical, and administrative goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Responsibilities:
- Teach medical microbiology to undergraduate (MBBS, BDS, Nursing, Allied Health Sciences) and postgraduate (MD Microbiology) students.
- Conduct lectures, practicals, tutorials, and internal assessments as per the approved curriculum.
- Guide postgraduate thesis work and student research projects.
- Participate in question paper setting, invigilation, and exam evaluation.
- Mentor junior faculty and residents; contribute to academic planning and improvements.
Research & Publication:
- Initiate and conduct independent and collaborative research in microbiology and infectious diseases.
- Publish research in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
- Assist in securing research grants and ethics committee approvals.
- Promote research culture among students and colleagues.
Clinical & Diagnostic Microbiology:
- Supervise the functioning of the diagnostic microbiology laboratory (bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, serology, and molecular biology).
- Ensure proper quality control, biosafety, and infection control protocols are followed.
- Work with the hospital’s infection control team for surveillance and outbreak investigations.
- Participate in antimicrobial stewardship and antibiogram development.
Administrative Duties:
- Assist the Head of Department in scheduling classes, preparing reports, and coordinating departmental audits.
- Participate in NMC/NAAC/NABL inspections and compliance processes.
- Support planning and execution of departmental CME programs, workshops, and academic events.
- Serve on academic and hospital committees as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Educational: MBBS with MD in Microbiology from an NMC-recognized institution.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of teaching and/or clinical experience in Microbiology after post-graduation, including at least 4 years as Assistant Professor (as per NMC norms).
- Registration: Must hold valid registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC)/Medical Council of India and respective State Medical Council.
