Associate Professor General Surgery

Position Summary:

The Associate Professor of General Surgery is a senior academic and clinical faculty member responsible for teaching, conducting research, and providing clinical services in the field of general surgery. This position includes mentoring junior faculty, contributing to curriculum development, and participating in academic leadership and professional service activities.


Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Education:

  • Deliver high-quality teaching to undergraduate medical students, residents, and fellows in surgery.
  • Develop and assess educational materials and surgical curriculum.
  • Supervise clinical rotations and bedside teaching.
  • Mentor and guide students and residents in academic and career development.
  • Conduct surgical simulation training and skills workshops.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide patient care in general surgery, including elective and emergency procedures.
  • Participate in surgical ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and operating room schedules.
  • Ensure best practices in clinical safety, ethics, and quality of care.
  • Supervise and mentor residents and interns in clinical settings.

Research & Scholarship:

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in areas of general surgery.
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at national/international conferences.
  • Apply for research funding and grants.
  • Guide postgraduate students and junior faculty in research projects.

Academic Leadership & Service:

  • Contribute to departmental governance and academic policy-making.
  • Serve on academic committees, boards, and review panels.
  • Participate in faculty development initiatives and interdepartmental collaborations.
  • Uphold professional and institutional ethics and standards.

Qualifications:

  • MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification.
  • Postgraduate qualification in General Surgery (e.g., MS, FRCS, or equivalent).
  • Registration with the relevant Medical Council (national and/or state).
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of teaching and clinical experience post-specialization.
  • Strong academic record with evidence of research and scholarly publications.
  • Demonstrated experience in surgical education and clinical leadership.
