Position Summary:
The Associate Professor of Forensic Medicine is a senior academic and medical educator responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting medico-legal work, guiding research, and supporting academic administration. The role bridges academic knowledge with practical applications in medico-legal practice, forensic pathology, and toxicology, contributing significantly to the legal and healthcare systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Teaching & Academic Duties
- Conduct lectures, practicals, and demonstrations in forensic medicine and toxicology for undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD Forensic Medicine) students.
- Supervise thesis work, seminars, and student research projects.
- Participate in internal assessments, university examinations, and academic audits.
- Assist in curriculum development and ensure alignment with NMC or institutional guidelines.
2. Medico-Legal Duties
- Perform and supervise medico-legal postmortem examinations and injury assessments (in affiliation with government hospitals).
- Prepare medico-legal reports and provide expert opinion in courts when required.
- Guide and train students and interns in medico-legal documentation and ethical practice.
3. Research & Publications
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in forensic science, toxicology, and legal medicine.
- Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at professional conferences.
- Guide junior faculty and students in research methodology and paper writing.
- Apply for grants and participate in funded projects, if applicable.
4. Administrative & Institutional Responsibilities
- Assist the Head of Department in coordinating teaching schedules, assessments, and departmental duties.
- Participate in academic committees, quality assurance, and institutional policy development.
- Support medical ethics training, forensic outreach programs, and interdepartmental collaboration.
Qualifications:
- Essential:
- MBBS with MD in Forensic Medicine (or equivalent recognized by the National Medical Commission or relevant authority).
- Minimum 5–7 years of total teaching experience, including at least 3 years as Assistant Professor.
- Medical council registration (state and national as applicable).
- Desirable:
- Experience in court appearances as a medico-legal expert.
- Strong research and publication record in indexed journals.
- Participation in curriculum reforms or forensic policy development.
