Job Summary:
The Associate Professor of Forensic Medicine is responsible for leading teaching and research activities in the department, overseeing medico-legal services, guiding junior faculty and students, and contributing to academic governance. The role demands expertise in forensic pathology, clinical forensic medicine, and toxicology with active involvement in medico-legal documentation and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Responsibilities:
- Deliver lectures, practical sessions, and case-based learning to undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate students (if applicable).
- Supervise and evaluate student academic performance and internal assessments.
- Mentor junior faculty, residents, and students in forensic medicine and research.
- Prepare teaching materials, question papers, and participate in university examinations.
- Contribute to curriculum development and academic policy updates.
Medico-Legal Responsibilities:
- Supervise and conduct medico-legal autopsies, clinical forensic examinations (MLC cases), and expert report writing.
- Ensure accurate medico-legal documentation and adherence to legal standards.
- Represent the department in legal proceedings when required (e.g., as an expert witness).
- Maintain coordination with police, legal authorities, and hospital administration for medico-legal services.
Research & Publications:
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in forensic pathology, clinical forensic medicine, and toxicology.
- Publish research in peer-reviewed indexed journals and present at national/international conferences.
- Guide UG research projects and co-guide PG theses (if PG program exists).
- Assist in securing institutional or external research funding.
Administrative Duties:
- Assist the Professor/HOD in managing departmental functions including schedules, audits, and inspections (e.g., NMC, NAAC).
- Organize academic events such as CMEs, medico-legal awareness programs, and forensic workshops.
- Participate in academic and regulatory committees at the institutional level.
- Maintain departmental records, autopsy reports, and laboratory documentation.
Qualifications:
- Educational: MBBS with MD in Forensic Medicine (or equivalent postgraduate degree from an NMC-recognized institution).
- Experience: At least 5 years of teaching experience in Forensic Medicine after post-graduation, including at least 4 years as Assistant Professor (as per NMC norms).
- Registration: Valid registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the respective State Medical Council.
