Associate Professor Community Medicine

Job Summary: The Associate Professor of Community Medicine is a senior academic and clinical position responsible for delivering high-quality education, conducting impactful research, and actively contributing to the development of public health initiatives. This role includes mentoring and supervising students and junior faculty members, engaging in public health program development, policy advocacy, and making significant contributions to the academic and research activities of the department. The Associate Professor will have a leadership role in improving community health through education, research, and practical application of community medicine principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching & Academic Leadership:
    • Design, deliver, and evaluate undergraduate and postgraduate courses in community medicine, public health, epidemiology, environmental health, and other related fields.
    • Lead lectures, seminars, workshops, and practical training sessions, ensuring the integration of current research and best practices in public health.
    • Supervise and mentor students, residents, and junior faculty, offering guidance in their academic, clinical, and research activities.
    • Develop and refine curriculum content, ensuring that it reflects the latest trends in public health and community medicine and meets the needs of students at all levels.
    • Participate in academic assessments, including exams, practical assessments, and research project evaluations.
  2. Research & Scholarly Contributions:
    • Lead and collaborate on significant research projects in community medicine, public health, epidemiology, health policy, and related areas.
    • Publish research findings in reputable, peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
    • Seek funding through research grants, partnerships, and collaborations to support community health and public health research initiatives.
    • Guide students and junior researchers in developing research proposals, conducting studies, and publishing their findings.
    • Contribute to evidence-based public health practices and policies by translating research outcomes into actionable recommendations.
  3. Public Health Program Development & Implementation:
    • Lead and participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of community-based public health programs, including disease prevention, health promotion, sanitation, and maternal and child health.
    • Engage with local health authorities, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to implement and improve community health programs and interventions.
    • Oversee public health campaigns targeting common health concerns in the community, such as vaccination, nutrition, mental health, and environmental health issues.
    • Monitor and evaluate the impact of public health interventions, using data to guide decision-making and program improvement.
  4. Health Policy & Advocacy:
    • Contribute to the development of public health policies at the local, national, and international levels.
    • Advocate for the integration of community medicine principles into healthcare systems, emphasizing preventive care, health equity, and accessibility.
    • Serve as an expert advisor to government agencies, health organizations, and policy-makers on issues related to community health and public health management.
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create health policies that address the social determinants of health, environmental risks, and health disparities.
  5. Community Engagement & Health Promotion:
    • Lead outreach activities to promote health education, behavior change, and the adoption of healthy lifestyles in diverse communities.
    • Organize community health events, workshops, and health screening camps to address local health challenges and improve health literacy.
    • Engage with community leaders and organizations to develop tailored health promotion initiatives that address specific local needs.
    • Ensure that health education materials and resources are culturally appropriate and accessible to the populations being served.
  6. Mentorship & Faculty Development:
    • Mentor and support junior faculty members, providing guidance in teaching, research, and career development.
    • Contribute to the academic and professional growth of faculty and students by fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
    • Encourage and assist faculty members in pursuing research opportunities, professional development, and continuing education.
  7. Administrative & Departmental Responsibilities:
    • Contribute to the overall administration of the Community Medicine Department, including strategic planning, budget management, and accreditation processes.
    • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and initiatives aimed at enhancing the department’s academic and research profile.
    • Assist in the preparation of academic and research reports, annual reviews, and accreditation documents for the department.
    • Support the organization of academic events, workshops, and conferences on public health topics.
  8. Professional Development & Continuing Education:
    • Stay updated with the latest advancements in community medicine, public health research, epidemiology, and health policy.
    • Participate in conferences, workshops, and continuing medical education (CME) activities to stay informed of emerging trends in public health and medical education.
    • Promote and support faculty participation in ongoing professional development programs.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education:
    • M.B.B.S. or equivalent medical degree.
    • A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Community Medicine, Public Health (MPH, DrPH), Epidemiology, or a related field.
    • Additional qualifications or certifications in public health, epidemiology, or health systems are desirable.
  • Experience:
    • At least 5-7 years of experience in teaching, research, and clinical practice in community medicine or public health.
