Job Summary:
The Associate Professor of Community Medicine will be responsible for teaching, research, and service in the areas of community health, public health policy, preventive medicine, and social determinants of health. This role involves mentoring students and residents, conducting research that improves community health outcomes, and engaging in outreach activities that promote public health awareness. The Associate Professor will also contribute to the development of curricula and foster collaboration between the academic institution and local communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Education:
- Develop and deliver lectures, seminars, and courses on topics related to community medicine, public health, epidemiology, healthcare systems, environmental health, social determinants of health, and preventive medicine.
- Supervise and mentor medical students, residents, and public health trainees in community-based clinical settings, research projects, and public health interventions.
- Participate in the design and implementation of the curriculum for community medicine, ensuring it aligns with current public health practices and emerging trends in healthcare delivery.
- Lead and support the development of online and in-person educational resources to support community health education.
- Organize and participate in community engagement activities, ensuring students understand the importance of public health in real-world settings.
Research and Scholarship:
- Conduct original research in community medicine and public health, focusing on issues such as disease prevention, health disparities, access to care, environmental health, and social determinants of health.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present them at national and international public health and medical conferences.
- Collaborate with other academic institutions, government agencies, and community organizations on research projects and initiatives aimed at improving public health.
- Secure external funding through grants, partnerships, and collaborations to support research projects and community health programs.
- Supervise and guide students, residents, and junior faculty in their research, fostering an environment of academic inquiry and public health advancement.
Clinical and Community Outreach:
- Work with community organizations, public health agencies, and local healthcare providers to identify and address public health challenges in local populations.
- Lead or contribute to community health assessments and initiatives designed to improve health outcomes, such as vaccination programs, disease prevention, mental health awareness, and environmental health projects.
- Engage in outreach programs that provide health education, preventive care, and health promotion in underserved and vulnerable populations.
- Advocate for policies that address public health needs and promote health equity at the local, regional, and national levels.
- Participate in the development and evaluation of community-based healthcare programs that address issues such as chronic disease management, maternal and child health, and health literacy.
Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in the governance of the department and university, serving on academic committees and advising on the strategic direction of community medicine programs.
- Lead or collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation processes in community medicine and public health education.
- Assist in faculty development programs, providing mentorship and guidance to junior faculty and researchers.
- Contribute to the university’s engagement with local, national, and international health organizations, and promote public health initiatives that align with the institution’s mission.
- Support departmental goals, including student recruitment, retention, and academic achievement in the field of community medicine.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Medical degree (MD, MBBS, or equivalent) or doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, or equivalent) in public health, community medicine, epidemiology, or a related field.
- Board certification in community medicine, preventive medicine, or a related specialty is preferred.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of teaching experience in community medicine or public health, with demonstrated success in mentoring students, residents, or junior faculty.
