Associate Professor Biochemistry

Position Summary:

The Associate Professor of Biochemistry is an experienced academic professional responsible for teaching, research, and departmental leadership in the field of biochemistry. The role includes mentoring students and junior faculty, guiding research, and contributing to curriculum development. The position supports the integration of biochemistry with clinical and translational sciences in a medical or health sciences education setting.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Teaching & Academic Duties

  • Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions in biochemistry to undergraduate (MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, Allied Health) and postgraduate students (MD, MSc, PhD).
  • Prepare and evaluate assessments, examinations, and student assignments.
  • Supervise postgraduate dissertations, thesis work, and student research projects.
  • Participate in curriculum planning, updates, and accreditation processes.

2. Research & Scholarly Activity

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in molecular biology, clinical biochemistry, nutrition, or metabolic disorders.
  • Publish research in reputable peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences.
  • Apply for research grants and manage ongoing research projects.
  • Mentor junior faculty and students in research design, writing, and publication.

3. Laboratory Oversight

  • Supervise the operations of biochemistry laboratories, ensuring quality control and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with clinical departments and diagnostic labs (in a medical college setting).
  • Support the integration of biochemistry with clinical case discussions and applied physiology.

4. Administrative and Leadership Duties

  • Assist the Head of Department in day-to-day academic and administrative functions.
  • Participate in academic committees, quality assurance programs, and institutional development.
  • Contribute to faculty development programs and student support activities.

Qualifications:

  • Essential:
    • MBBS with MD (Biochemistry) or M.Sc. and PhD in Biochemistry (for non-medical stream faculty, as per institutional regulations).
    • Minimum 5–7 years of teaching and research experience in a recognized institution.
    • At least 3 years experience as Assistant Professor.
    • Registered with relevant medical or academic councils (if applicable).
  • Desirable:
    • Strong publication record in indexed national/international journals.
    • Experience in research supervision and project management.
    • Familiarity with digital teaching tools and laboratory accreditation processes.
