Job Summary:
The Associate Professor in Anatomy is an academic position responsible for providing advanced instruction in human anatomy, engaging in research, and contributing to the development of the department’s academic programs. This role involves teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervising research projects, mentoring faculty and students, and engaging in service to the institution. The Associate Professor will play an important role in enhancing the department’s educational standards, fostering innovation in anatomy teaching, and contributing to the development of anatomical sciences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Education:
- Lead lectures, practical sessions, and tutorials in human anatomy for medical, dental, nursing, and allied health science students.
- Develop and update course content to reflect the latest advancements in anatomy, ensuring high educational standards and alignment with current teaching methodologies.
- Supervise and guide students in cadaveric dissection, histology, neuroanatomy, and other practical aspects of anatomy.
- Facilitate interactive and engaging teaching methods, including the use of digital resources, simulations, and innovative learning platforms.
- Assess and evaluate students’ performance through exams, assignments, practical assessments, and continuous evaluations.
- Ensure the integration of anatomical education with clinical learning and healthcare practice.
- Research and Scholarly Activities:
- Lead and contribute to research in anatomy, with a focus on advancing anatomical sciences, clinical anatomy, medical education, or related fields.
- Publish original research in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
- Supervise and mentor postgraduate students, medical students, and junior faculty in research projects, guiding them in the design, execution, and publication of research.
- Foster a collaborative research environment within the department and contribute to interdepartmental or interdisciplinary research projects.
- Curriculum Development and Improvement:
- Actively participate in the design, development, and ongoing review of the anatomy curriculum to ensure its relevance, rigor, and alignment with contemporary educational needs.
- Incorporate new teaching tools and technology (e.g., virtual dissection, 3D modeling) into the anatomy curriculum to enhance learning experiences.
- Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of anatomy courses and propose improvements to enhance student learning outcomes and satisfaction.
- Ensure the integration of research-based content into teaching materials, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students.
- Student Mentorship and Academic Support:
- Provide mentorship and guidance to students, particularly those undertaking research or clinical projects, and offer advice on career development.
- Address students’ academic concerns, offer support for difficult concepts, and encourage further study or research in the field of anatomy.
- Organize and conduct review sessions, workshops, and seminars to reinforce student understanding of complex anatomical concepts.
- Departmental and Institutional Service:
- Contribute to the administrative responsibilities of the Anatomy department, including participating in departmental meetings, committees, and academic planning activities.
- Assist in the organization of academic events, such as conferences, workshops, and guest lectures, aimed at promoting anatomical education and research.
- Support the department in recruitment efforts, including interviews for new faculty or staff, and contribute to the overall development of the department’s academic programs.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and ethical standards during practical and research-based teaching, particularly in dissection and laboratory work.
- Professional Development:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in anatomy, medical education, and educational technologies.
- Participate in professional development activities, including attending workshops, conferences, and training programs relevant to anatomy and medical education.
- Contribute to the advancement of anatomical education through continuous self-improvement and active involvement in professional organizations.
Required Qualifications:
- Educational Qualifications:
- MBBS + MS/MD.
- Experience:
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in teaching anatomy at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, with demonstrated excellence in education.
- Proven experience in conducting and supervising research in anatomy or related fields, with published work in peer-reviewed journals.
- Prior experience in curriculum development and the integration of innovative teaching methods into anatomical education.
- Experience in supervising and mentoring students and junior faculty, including those conducting research or clinical projects.
