Associate Professor Pediatrics

Job Summary:

The Associate Professor in Pediatrics is responsible for providing high-quality medical education to undergraduate and postgraduate students, contributing to clinical practice, and engaging in research in pediatric medicine. This role involves teaching, supervising students and residents, delivering clinical care to pediatric patients, and advancing knowledge in the field of pediatrics through research and scholarly activity.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching & Education:
    • Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials on pediatric topics including childhood growth and development, pediatric diseases, vaccination, pediatric emergencies, and neonatal care.
    • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students in clinical settings, ensuring hands-on learning and practical experience in pediatric patient care.
    • Develop and update educational materials such as case studies, learning resources, and assessments.
    • Assess student performance through exams, clinical evaluations, and assignments, providing feedback to enhance their learning and understanding.
    • Mentor postgraduate residents, fellows, and junior faculty, supporting their clinical development and research endeavors.
    • Contribute to curriculum development and refinement, ensuring that it aligns with current medical practices and educational standards.
  • Clinical Practice:
    • Provide high-quality clinical care for pediatric patients, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of various pediatric illnesses, conditions, and developmental disorders.
    • Lead and participate in outpatient clinics, inpatient rounds, and pediatric emergency care, offering expert guidance on treatment plans and patient management.
    • Perform routine pediatric procedures, including vaccinations, diagnostic tests, and developmental assessments.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in managing complex pediatric cases, ensuring comprehensive and holistic care.
    • Participate in pediatric emergency services and provide leadership during critical patient care situations.
  • Research:
    • Conduct and supervise research in pediatrics, focusing on areas such as childhood diseases, pediatric nutrition, pediatric endocrinology, genetic disorders, immunology, and child development.
    • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international pediatric conferences.
    • Seek research funding and grants to support pediatric research, ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines and research protocols.
    • Supervise and guide postgraduate students and fellows in research projects, encouraging them to develop innovative solutions to pediatric health challenges.
  • Curriculum Development:
    • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the pediatric curriculum for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
    • Integrate the latest evidence-based practices and pediatric advancements into the teaching materials and clinical training programs.
    • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure the inclusion of pediatric topics in the broader medical curriculum.
    • Implement innovative teaching methods, such as simulation-based learning, case-based learning, and interactive digital resources to engage students.
  • Professional Development:
    • Participate in continuing medical education (CME) programs, workshops, and conferences to stay current with developments in pediatric care, treatment techniques, and research.
    • Engage in peer networking and collaborations to advance the field of pediatrics and stay informed about new research and medical breakthroughs.
    • Contribute to the development and growth of the pediatric department and the institution as a whole.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Participate in departmental and institutional meetings, contributing to the development of policies, clinical protocols, and educational programs.
    • Assist in managing and coordinating the pediatric department’s operations, including student rotations, staff development, and patient care protocols.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of clinical activities, research, and educational contributions.
    • Participate in performance evaluations, departmental audits, and quality assurance programs within the pediatric department.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • MBBS + MS/MD in Pediatrics.
