Position Summary:
The Associate Professor of Microbiology is a senior academic faculty member responsible for leading teaching, research, and academic development in the field of microbiology. This position plays a key role in curriculum delivery, guiding research, and mentoring junior faculty and students in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Teaching & Academic Duties
- Conduct lectures, tutorials, and practical/laboratory sessions in microbiology for undergraduate (MBBS, BDS, BSc) and postgraduate (MD, MSc, PhD) students.
- Supervise postgraduate dissertations, student projects, and internal assessments.
- Participate in the planning and revision of curriculum and course materials.
- Ensure quality and innovation in microbiology education, including the use of digital tools and interactive methods.
2. Research & Scholarly Activity
- Initiate and lead independent or collaborative research projects in medical microbiology or related fields (e.g., immunology, virology, antimicrobial resistance).
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
- Apply for research grants and manage funded research projects.
- Mentor junior faculty and postgraduate students in research methodology and publication.
3. Laboratory and Clinical Microbiology Oversight
- Supervise diagnostic microbiology services (bacteriology, mycology, virology, parasitology, etc.), if affiliated with a teaching hospital.
- Ensure quality assurance and safety protocols in microbiology labs.
- Collaborate with clinicians and hospital infection control teams to guide infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship programs.
4. Administrative Responsibilities
- Assist the Head of Department in academic planning and departmental coordination.
- Participate in faculty committees, accreditation reviews, and internal quality assurance processes.
- Contribute to institutional governance and academic leadership initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Essential:
- MBBS with MD (Microbiology) or M.Sc. with PhD in Microbiology (as per local regulations for medical/non-medical faculty).
- Minimum 5–7 years of teaching and research experience, including at least 3 years as Assistant Professor in a recognized institution.
- Recognized registration with relevant Medical or Professional Council (if applicable).
- Desirable:
- Strong publication record in indexed journals.
- Experience in guiding postgraduate students and managing funded research.
- Participation in curriculum development, quality assurance, or academic committees.
