Position Overview:
The Department of Surgery at [Institution Name] is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Surgical Oncology. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that provides high-quality patient care, engages in cutting-edge research, and provides education and training to medical students, residents, and fellows. This role requires strong clinical expertise in surgical oncology, a commitment to research excellence, and a passion for teaching.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality, patient-centered care in the diagnosis and surgical management of oncological conditions, including solid tumors in various organs (e.g., breast, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, thoracic, etc.).
- Perform complex oncologic surgeries, including minimally invasive and robotic techniques.
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings to develop comprehensive treatment plans for patients.
- Serve as a consultant for other specialties, providing expertise in surgical oncology.
2. Research Responsibilities:
- Develop and conduct independent and collaborative research in the field of surgical oncology.
- Contribute to the design, execution, and publication of clinical trials and studies in oncology.
- Secure funding through grants and other sources to support innovative research in cancer surgery.
- Mentor medical students, residents, and fellows in research endeavors, fostering a supportive research environment.
3. Educational Responsibilities:
- Teach medical students, surgical residents, and oncology fellows in the areas of surgical oncology, patient care, and research.
- Develop and implement curricula related to surgical oncology for medical and graduate programs.
- Participate in and contribute to continuing medical education (CME) programs for healthcare professionals.
- Supervise and mentor surgical residents, fellows, and students during their clinical and research training.
4. Administrative Responsibilities:
- Participate in departmental meetings and committees to contribute to the overall mission and goals of the institution.
- Assist in the development and refinement of institutional policies and procedures for surgical oncology services.
- Maintain professional and collegial relationships with colleagues, staff, and students.
Qualifications:
Education & Training:
- MD, DO, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Completion of a fellowship in Surgical Oncology or a closely related field.
Licensure & Certification:
- Board certification or eligibility in General Surgery.
- Fellowship-trained and board-certified or board-eligible in Surgical Oncology.
- Active medical license to practice in [State or Country].
Experience:
- A demonstrated record of excellence in clinical care, education, and research.
- At least 1-2 years of post-fellowship clinical experience (preferred but not required).
- Experience with or a strong interest in multidisciplinary collaboration and cancer research.
- Strong commitment to teaching and mentoring at the medical and graduate level.
