Job Summary:
The Department of Surgical Gastroenterology is seeking a motivated and academically inclined Assistant Professor to join our faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for clinical service delivery, surgical procedures, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, mentoring residents, and participating in research and academic development. The position requires a balance of clinical excellence, teaching commitment, and a scholarly approach to the field of surgical gastroenterology.
Key Responsibilities:Clinical Duties:
- Manage patients with gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, and pancreatic diseases requiring surgical intervention.
- Perform complex GI surgeries including but not limited to colorectal surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, pancreatic surgery, and advanced laparoscopic procedures.
- Participate in inpatient and outpatient care, ward rounds, and emergency services as scheduled.
- Ensure best practices and evidence-based care in all clinical duties.
Teaching & Academic Duties:
- Teach and train undergraduate medical students, surgical residents, and fellows.
- Supervise clinical rotations, surgical skill labs, and case presentations.
- Develop and deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials as per the academic curriculum.
- Participate in academic evaluation, assessments, and examinations.
Research & Scholarly Activities:
- Engage in departmental or independent clinical research and scholarly projects.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences.
- Guide postgraduate dissertations and foster a research culture among trainees.
Administrative & Institutional Duties:
- Participate in department meetings, curriculum planning, and hospital committees.
- Support institutional accreditation, quality assurance, and academic planning efforts.
- Ensure compliance with medical education regulatory bodies and university standards.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- MBBS and MS in General Surgery (or equivalent recognized qualification).
- MCh in Surgical Gastroenterology (or equivalent superspecialty qualification recognized by Medical Council/NMC/DNB).
- Valid registration with Medical Council of [India / relevant country].
- 1–3 years of experience in teaching or academic roles (desirable but not mandatory for new MCh graduates).
- Demonstrated interest in academics, research, and surgical excellence.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Qualification – MBBS, MS/MD, MCh, DNB
