Assistant Professor Radiation Oncology

Position Summary:

The Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology is responsible for delivering high-quality clinical care, engaging in academic teaching and training, and contributing to research and development in the field of oncology. This role combines patient management with academic leadership and innovation in radiotherapy techniques. The position requires commitment to excellence in education, compassionate patient care, and ongoing scholarly activity.


Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties:

  • Provide comprehensive care to cancer patients requiring radiation therapy.
  • Independently plan, supervise, and review treatment strategies using advanced radiotherapy techniques (e.g., IMRT, IGRT, VMAT, SBRT, SRS).
  • Participate in tumor boards and multidisciplinary care planning with surgical and medical oncology teams.
  • Ensure quality and safety standards in radiation treatment delivery.
  • Supervise residents, medical officers, and technologists in clinical settings.

Teaching & Academic Responsibilities:

  • Conduct lectures, clinical case discussions, and practical training for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Mentor and guide residents, fellows, and junior faculty members.
  • Develop curriculum and participate in academic audits and assessments.
  • Organize and contribute to departmental academic events, workshops, and CME programs.

Research & Scholarly Activity:

  • Initiate and participate in clinical, translational, or basic research projects.
  • Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
  • Apply for grants and contribute to the research output of the department.
  • Support and supervise student and resident research projects and theses.

Administrative & Leadership Roles:

  • Participate in departmental meetings, planning, and policy-making.
  • Contribute to institutional committees, quality assurance initiatives, and accreditation processes.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure adherence to ethical and legal standards in patient care.

Qualifications:

  • Educational: MBBS with MD/DNB in Radiation Oncology (or equivalent qualification) from a recognized university/institute.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 1–3 years post-MD/DNB experience in a recognized institution (may vary depending on institutional regulations).
    • Demonstrated experience in teaching and clinical practice.
  • Certifications (desirable): Participation in oncology fellowships, training in advanced radiotherapy techniques.

Key Skills:

  • Clinical proficiency in radiation oncology treatment planning and delivery
  • Excellent teaching and mentoring skills
  • Strong interest in research and academic writing
  • Familiarity with modern radiotherapy equipment and software (e.g., Eclipse, Monaco, Aria, MOSAIQ)
  • Good communication, leadership, and team collaboration
