Assistant Professor Radiation Oncology

Job Summary:

The Assistant Professor in Radiation Oncology is an academic role responsible for delivering high-quality education, conducting research, and providing clinical expertise in radiation oncology. The individual will play an integral role in patient care, teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, and contributing to clinical and translational research in the field of oncology. The Assistant Professor will work alongside senior faculty and other healthcare professionals to offer advanced radiation therapy for patients with various types of cancers, while also enhancing the academic profile of the department through teaching and research activities.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Care:
    • Provide expert radiation oncology services, including diagnosis, planning, and delivery of radiation therapy for cancer patients.
    • Design and implement individualized radiation treatment plans, including external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), and brachytherapy, in line with clinical protocols and best practices.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, and other specialists, to develop comprehensive care plans for cancer patients.
    • Monitor and manage the progress of patients undergoing radiation therapy, ensuring timely follow-up, adjustment of treatment plans, and addressing side effects or complications.
    • Participate in weekly tumor board meetings to discuss complex cancer cases and assist in decision-making processes for treatment strategies.
  2. Teaching and Education:
    • Deliver lectures, seminars, and hands-on training in radiation oncology for medical students, residents, and fellows.
    • Supervise and mentor residents and fellows, guiding them in clinical practice, radiation therapy techniques, and patient management.
    • Participate in the development, implementation, and assessment of the radiation oncology curriculum for residents and fellows.
    • Lead case discussions, journal clubs, and other academic activities aimed at enhancing the educational experience of trainees.
    • Provide regular feedback and evaluation for residents, ensuring they meet educational and clinical competencies.
  3. Research and Scholarly Activity:
    • Engage in clinical, translational, and laboratory research aimed at advancing the field of radiation oncology and cancer treatment.
    • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed medical journals and present research at national and international conferences.
    • Supervise and mentor residents, fellows, and junior faculty in their research activities, helping them with the design and execution of research projects.
    • Contribute to clinical trials, outcome studies, and innovative research initiatives that improve patient care and treatment modalities in radiation oncology.
  4. Leadership and Departmental Development:
    • Contribute to the strategic direction of the radiation oncology department by actively participating in departmental meetings and committees.
    • Assist in the development of clinical protocols, departmental policies, and quality assurance measures to improve patient outcomes and safety.
    • Provide guidance and leadership in implementing the latest advances in radiation therapy technologies and techniques.
    • Promote a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the department.
  5. Administrative Responsibilities:
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care, including treatment plans, follow-up assessments, and outcomes.
    • Assist in the management of clinical operations, including scheduling, patient flow, and resource allocation.
    • Contribute to the evaluation and review of department performance, helping to establish departmental goals and initiatives.
    • Participate in the accreditation process for the radiation oncology department, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational Qualifications:
    • MBBS + MS/MD.
    • Board certification or eligibility in Radiation Oncology (or equivalent qualification).
  • Experience:
    • At least 3-5 years of clinical experience in radiation oncology, with a proven ability to handle complex cancer cases.
    • Demonstrated expertise in radiation therapy techniques, including external beam radiation, stereotactic radiosurgery, and brachytherapy.
    • Experience in supervising and mentoring residents, fellows, and medical students in academic settings.
    • Active involvement in clinical or translational research with publications in peer-reviewed journals.
